Description
I did this my senior year of high school and it's still one of my favorite pieces. I get a lot of flack for loving portraiture so much ("It's booooring!"), but hey, what're you gonna do?I saw the stock image, and I thought the model was stunning, so I had to draw it.

This is just gorgeous. The cheekbones, the nose... I really like the shading! I've done portraits with graphite and charcoal before, and I wanted to set fire to everything when I was less than halfway through. Anyway, what I mean to say is that it takes a lot of time and patience to make something look this good, and you are just fantastic.

(I love your icon so much).
Thank you! It can definitely get frustrating, and what's weird is I'm not naturally a patient person. I want it done, and I want it done NOW. But for whatever reason, I have oodles of patience when it comes to art. It's like a sedative or something. It totally relaxes me. There have been times when I've literally sat and painted for seven hours straight, and I don't even notice.
But thank you so much, really.

.....so, this is actually an older piece? It really is quite extraordinary, having become accustomed to the style established and on display in rest of your Gallery.
...really, one of the finer portraits I've seen on DA, in terms of style and execution. Very well done!

It is; about a year and a half old. Thank you so much; these sort of portraits are my favorites to do, up-close and realistic. I love it. I've done a few as gifts or requests for friends, but for whatever reason, I've never posted them here. But this is one of my favorite pieces I've ever done, which really is strange to say because usually I find problems in my finished pieces and I'm not quite satisfied with them.
Thank you so much!

Nice shadeing and lighting! It looks so natural! this is something that I should be practicing if I want to get into an art college.

Thank you so much! Absolutely! Try practicing drawing snapshots like the stock photo I used for this. Focus on lighting and value and contrast; the more you do it, the more fun you'll have. It's the best!
