An art trade with the lovely Enigmatic-Ki who is also a big Dark Crystal fan.(Sorry for taking so long - I wanted to keep the fact that I was doing a bg and also drawing Rek'yr a surprise!)

Honestly, I'm so used to drawing Gelfling (who are already pretty complex) that a Skeksis like SkekMal was a huge challenge for me-- but I'm glad I pushed my limits!
Also, does anyone else think SkekMal's skull collection is Gelfling skulls? Since he's canonically known to eat everything that he catches, this would explain why he looks younger than the other Skeksis.

This is so awesome ♥ Skekmal is wonderful in your art style, and I love that you depicted a scene that could easily have happened between these two characters. Thank you! I was really inspired by the conversation SkekMal and Rek'yr had on the show about the sand master previously guiding the Hunter.
Me too, he was a pretty cool character. I def want to see more of the Crystal desert in the next season.

Yeah, it was definitely one of the most beautiful sites.
I feel like we're going to see more of the seas of thra in another season - as one of the books that the show is inspired by is called "Tides of the Dark Crystal" and that seems to imply ocean faring will be significant in another arc.
