Memories Lost AU
This idea has been floating around in my head for a little bit, and I finally got around to drawing it.
In this AU, Mabel and Dipper are going to Gravity Falls for the summer- same as the show’s start. However, at the bus station, Mabel runs off to look at something that intrigues her, and her and Dipper get separated. In an act of foolishness, the boy gets on the bus, thinking his sister would get on after him, but as the doors close and the bus speeds off, the boy panics.

Back at the station, Mabel is distracted until the next bus, unbeknown to her, is bound towards Alaska, comes. Assuming her brother is on the bus somewhere, she climbs on and looks around for him- but gets worried when she has no sight of him. Eventually, this bus begins to leave as well, but Mabel assures herself that her brother is fine, and that she’ll be able to get in touch with him when she gets to Gravity Falls.

However, an unusually large amount of hours pass, and Mabel is greeted with an inky black night. She begins to get awfully worried, and prays her brother is okay. Falling asleep with lots on her mind, the bus continues on…until she’s woken up by the horrific noise of screaming and tires squealing. Opening her eyes, she jolts awake and looks out the window to see that the bus is swerving off a mountain path. Her entire body goes numb as she begins floating- and realizes the bus is crashing. She screams out her brother’s name before everything goes black.

A rescue team is called out to the mountain range, and they salvage the lucky few people who survived- Mabel being one of them. They are flown to a hospital somewhere in Canada, and Mabel comes to- not knowing anything. She didn’t have much of an idea who she was- she only remembered her name, and a few examinations proved she suffered trauma to her head, causing amnesia.

Weeks after she recovered, she was released from the hospital, insisting that she lived in Alaska, because that’s where her bus was bound, and wanted to go there. She claimed she knew her parents were there, and wanted to go home. She knew she was lying, but she didn’t even know her last name- there was no way anyone was going to find her parents. She hitchhiked her way to Alaska, where she lived on the streets until she was put into “the system”, and a month later, got adopted by two snooty, but reliable, parents. She eventually got used to life in Anchorage, in a high class neighborhood, but something always called to her- and she often cried and had night terrors during the nights she lay alone.

Dipper tried everything once he got to Gravity Falls. He called his parents and asked if she was still in Piedmont, and after looking around the whole city, the parents bitterly declined. Dipper wanted to rip his hair out, scream. He wanted to die. He knew it was his fault his sister was separated from her- what if she was injured? Over the months, where Mabel was recovering and getting adopted, the boy desperately tried to find her- but to no avail. But Dipper knew that there was a connection between them, and had hope to find her.
