Description "The sun will rise in the morning" ...Barak Obama

I do appreciate these words and urge my fellow citizens to put away the hate and malice that drive so many of us these days. We will endure whatever happens next and need to look forward to deal with what we have, and not what was lost.

The photo below (manipulation...textures added) features a small murmuration of starlings.
Starlings were brought over to America in the late nineteenth century. They are not indigenous to North America. Over time, they have thrived. Their numbers are enormous and they are now very much hated.

Starlings will push out indigenous birds for survival, even resorting to killing other species' chicks. They are doing what they always have done to procreate.

I have come to love these animals for their beautiful displays of synchronized flying. Hundreds and thousands of them fly in perfect unison. They are united and stronger for it.

Over time, I could not help but parallel the plight of our neighboring nation's poor coming to America for a better life. America has "laws" for their entry, but has willingly ignored these laws and willingly ignored the need to change these laws to help our neighbors. This goes ignored because Americans are more than willing to take advantage of the neighbor who is desperate to feed their family. Wages are low and the work is arduous.

When we sit down to dinner and fill our bellies, we never think about those who make the trek and bend the back to get it to our table. We do not thank them. We do not cherish their contribution to our comfort.

Hypocrisy has become our meal of choice.

Whatever happens next needs to reflect the honor and respect these citizens deserve.

Like the starling, they were forced to come here by circumstance and by our own will.

the bloated blather of presidential promises never ceases astonish me...this is one that I hope I completely mis-understood

I remember when my mother went "downtown" to take and pass the "naturalization" test. We celebrated quietly and to this day it stands out as a landmark day in my life.
We are all immigrants ultimately

There were promises that are literally unkeepable and that's a very good thing, but I worry about what President T. can do.

We are all immigrants ultimately - yes! How people forget that is beyond me - but I think I got a feeling for it driving through the west last month. Such wide open spaces and isolation... people seeing only people like themselves during the day and watching Fox News at night. Maybe that's unfair... I don't know.
