Season 2, Episode 7 "Society of the Blind Eye", during the groups presumed moments before they lose their memories they all confess their secrets. Dipper's is that he uses big complicated words that he doesn't understand in order to seem smarter, and that if he isn't the smart one in their group, he doesn't know who he is.
