So using feathers is racist? I'm still confused.

It's because it's a Native American warbonnet, it's a sacred item and it's considered offensive for non-NAs to wear them

My culture is not yours to appropriate. You used the war bonnet in your "fashion". The war bonnet is a very sacred thing. Our regalia is not costuming. Our regalia is sacred to us, every part of it, and replicating it in any way, shape, or form is not only offensive, it's racist. You can cry "I'm not racist" all you like. You can scream about how it's supposedly based of Tolkein's work all you wish.
It doesn't change the fact that you appropriated the war bonnet for your precious fashion shoot, further marginalizing my people and my culture. And you know what? It's not just -you- that gets jumped for this. It's everyone that uses our regalia in their "fashion" shoots.

I think you need to learn to differentiate between racism and ignorance. It is very easy for someone who sees a picture of a warbonnet without knowing what it is and think "wow, that is beautiful" and be inspired. There is no intention in this picture to make little of native american culture that I can see, only an admiration for it´s aestethics. Should it be be misappropriation for non christians or non muslims to wear beard since both the bible and the quran says a grown man should have one? I also think it is wrong to single out this one photographer for an misappropriation that is so comman that it has become an culture itself.
I understand that it can be very sensitive for you considering how the native american population have and are still being treated. I was very fascinated by the subject as a historyloving youth and could easily have ended up doing similar things since the books did not offer that much about the native american cultures in themselves.
One last point I want to make is that in russia where she is from there is also several shamanic cultures that uses feather bonnets who shares the same cultural heritage as you and pre-christian slavic peoples very likely used feathers in ceremonial ways. If you look worldwide it is also a very common practice, it could pretty much be viewed as a common human practice.
I do not know the photographer or anything about her opinions I just felt like several people jumped to the conclusion racist far to quickly. Ignorance should be fought with knowledge not judgment(I believe the same goes for racism for the most part actually since it is closely linked with ignorance but also the unintelligent peoples wish to have an easy target.)
