Description
This is one of the first concepts of the OC Maralah after the Sea Wolves picture. It was heavily influenced by some Serpieri sketchbooks.Kind of a first brainstorm, the character went through quite a number of iterations.

A really beautiful render. I love the fact she rides her horse bareback. Great background setting too. And yes, I’m familiar with Serpieri’s work, including Druuns riding on her horse au natural.

Thanks a lot. I do really love some of old Serpieri's drawing style, and if you look beyond the obvious it's really covering a broad scope of scenes and genres masterfully. This picture was more of a kickoff for inspiration, which accounts for a couple of flaws, but I thought it nice enough to include it under concepts. Glad you like it!

Nice work. I'm not sure why the mane on the Daz horse doesn't go all the way up to the ears, though, I'm pretty sure it should, and that it should connect with the forelock.

Let's put it plain. The mane on the Daz horse is an insult to a noble animal and the purchaser, no less.
Someday or other I'll try the Hivewire horse, but I got some additional content for the DAZ horse that I can't use on those

The tails are bad also. It's unfortunate. The horse figure itself is very good. The mane tends to necessitate some photoshop-retouching, infant it might be easier full stop to paint the mane on afterwards. I tend to at least use the clone tool to extend it up to the ears where it should start.
Reins are also a nightmare to get in the right place, so I also find they are best ignored as regards 3d work, and painted on after.

Hhhmmmm... I have some ideas for a story featuring a native american woman. No time to write so far, but this is inspiring

The plain tribes will not feature much in the next season, but there is be another place in that story that might interest you

I like everything in general, but the skin color of the lady is embarrassing, a lot of melanin for the north, no?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Magnus-Strindboem In reply to GETSX [2019-04-22 17:14:44 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, though the Inuit and some northern native folks have a fairly dark skin color, too.
But you're right, was to dark for me, too. It was a pretty early concept and I completely changed the skin several times and arrived at a custom created one in the end

Glad you like it. Since Maralah transcended herself a bit out of the more prosaic story parts, maybe this lady could take over another role. But in the next storyline, neither Maralah nor the plains natives will feature much, so it will take some time

I used a Serpieri picture collection as reference. 3D is a very useful tool, but you got to learn your composition and stuff just the same. I do not use reference directly for creating pictures (this was an exception since it was a concept I did not intend to put online at first) as it inhibits the creative process, at least for me, but for learning purposes good artist works are an inspiration and help.

Glad to hear. Actually it's not 'overworked', more of a 3D-sketch. But I feel that I often got trouble after all the reworking that I have difficulty to get the impact of some of the early stages of the picture.

Yeah it's a bit on the large size for your average Mustang Somehow the destrier breed I use for my knights got carried over, but maybe I'll stay with it. Mammals in cold climates tend to become larger, don't they? (Now I just need some shaggy hair for that horse ...)
