Rome Total War is one of my favorite games. I've spent a lot of time commanding my Velites, Hastati, Triarii, Auxilia, Principes and various types of Legionary Cohorts and Cavalry units against the barbarian hordes
This one is probably Praetorian Cavalry, a largely fictional unit and the strongest one in the game. The real ones were the Emperor's bodyguard, and were not defined as cavalry or infantry, but rather by their duty.

I also figured possibily this was also Byzantine era soldier. they were still wearing Roman style uniforms.
but as you put it, its based on Romans, not Byzantines.
