Reminds me of the time when I grew up in the rural area that these birds "Crows", used to dig nuts from the fields of the people in the area. Field owners had to erect what was called "scare-crows" made of rags and similar to a crow, the bird. This one too has a grain in her mouth - not sure if it is a nut. They were not peaceful birds, at all!

I think it is this "nasty" ness of theirs that my mind found the word "ugly" to describe it. O yes, they are 'nasty'. Talking about 'intelligent', when I grew up in the rural area, I heard stories from the elders that, if one found the chick of this bird and tied it up, this bird would fly away and come back with some twig from a plant only known to it and it would put that twig around the knot and the knot would be undone and the chick freed from whatever it had been tied with. I never proved it - I am not sure if it was a fairy tale!
