Description
I'm not sure if the new page will be done today, as photoshoop hates me and also I have plans. So here is a sketch, because that's better than nothing! Baaaaw it is so messy. This is Set before his fall from grace. The ending on his name indicates 'majesty' and was used by people referring to him as the King of the Red Land (Deshret).

Your depiction of Set is probably the best I've seen so far. Wonderful detail in his face and clothing. Love the teeth XD

I always denied that Set failed. While reading myths I always was writing my own version in the head. I don't know why, maybe because I could?
Great drawing, he really looks majestic

I agree, I don't think he failed. Everything he did had a good result for Egypt. But my theories are going to be in the comic, so I shouldn't say more.

Good, because I do character sketches a lot when I am bored or feel the need to practice, so this will not be the last!

...Set is so cool. :> (I like how you draw him a lot) I don't know why, but I really like the legs and how the hair rests on them... gosh that sounds so very wrong, but it does look very nice! >_π: 0 β©: 1

This is utterly awesome (I am beginning to think that I pass the impression to have just learned the word "utter")!
His thoughtful countenance impresses me as much as it puzzles me to what may he be thinking (and why is he looking towards his hand). But, as weird as this may be, the part that drew my attention the most was his legs and feet. It is so well drawn and well defined not to mention the nails that, apart from a few occurences, are so well designed and, well, he is all perfectly portrayed.
My congratulations for making yet another sketch looks like a great work.

Thank you. As usual, I don't feel deserving of such high praise, but I appreciate it very much. ^^

You're entirely welcome (how could one be partially welcome?).
And believe me when I say this, or at least say you do, you deserve much more praise than I alone can give. You are a good artist the way I would like to be, even though as I suppose you do think so to, not stopping there. In all modesty aside, I can see potential where most will not even look twice (except when it concerns me, perhaps), and in you I can see great potential and yet another artist who is buried beneath the apparent preference for fanart and coloured works that these communities seem to have.

Thank you. It's so nice to have someone consistently interested in my work, even now that I do less fanart. ^_^

To tell you the blunt truth⦠I don't like fanarts. Not even a little, not even if I try. Sometimes it can be fitting when you have an idea that you can only picture portrayed by a pre-existing character. But I think that originality and creativity goes above anything else. As you might have noticed, I tend to comment more on your original work than on your fanarts. I to reckon the usefulness and wonder of fanarts but I dislike it almost completely. Even though I do know it is great to the learning process, I couldn't force myself to draw any thing like it.

I understand why the subject of fanart is divisive, but personally I see it as a chance to make tribute to something that inspired and influenced me. As someone very interested in pop culture I see it as a participation in the dialogue. Sort of like Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans, you can take someone else's character and do something new with it. What I dislike is when people draw without adding anything new. That is good practice for some, but one cannot take credit for such work. It is utterly unoriginal.
The line is indistinct here, but I think works speaks for itself as to whether any imagination was involved in it's genesis. And of course, I understand why some, like you, have no patience for it at all. Most of what's out there is of the useless kind. It is uninspiring and seems a waste of talent for those whose artistic ability is already adept beyond the early learning stage.

Despite my previous comment I do agree with you mostly. My greatest problem in this particular issue is to divide what would be useless fanart and what is greatly drawn and imaginative. Once upon a time there is a drawing or two that catch my attention even being a fanart, I suppose these would be it. But it's getting too hard for that to happen.
And when I see artists, whose skills go beyond the intermediate abilities, drawing a fanart that adds nothing more than complex lines and an interesting usage of colours, I can't believe it. I honestly think he/she is simply wasting his sublime skills with petty things. It is as though the artist have drawing skills but no imagination, no creativity. Cursed to always draw what others imagined. Never to bring to life his own creations.

I think you hit the nail on the head: "It is as though the artist have drawing skills but no imagination, no creativity" Yes. I think there are those who actually have skill but no creativity. They just don't have the desire to try, or literally learned to draw by looking at only one artist's work and therefore cannot make original looking work.

What fills me with hatred, or so to speak, is the fact that these artists are good (can't say otherwise) and are worshipped by many even though all he does is, in a less direct way, simply copy another worshipped person's work. But the problem does not stop there, as this happened to you I can't think of a better person to be talking about this: When an artist has made a career out of original works but his most praised works are fanarts. I have seem many times, incredible artists that had his greatest numbers in a Naruto or Square-anything piece of drawing, not because it was well-done or even clever and imaginative. Just because it had that character or other⦠That's just repulsive. Many artists draw, just out of curiosity, fanart of a popular character or series, specially badly done, just so he/she can see to what extend goes the popular stupidity. These experiment tend to show that there is no limit to these things.

Yes, this happened to me- although I'm nowhere near the ranks of some of these artists- but Hotep is easily the most popular original work I've had so that makes me happy. Unless you count a certain poem that I may well take down.

Hotep deserves much more popularity, I tell you. But I am happy for you, accomplishing at least the first part of a great path. Ignore that poem and its popularity (I do think it's a nice idea to delete it, as everyone who would read it as a work of yours rather than a work about sex have done it already). Hotep is if not already, growing to be one of the greatest reasons to keep coming here everyday.
