The Neon Shallows, a bit of lore:

"Before we colonized this aquatic planet it appeared to be devoid of complex lifeforms... How wrong we were.
Macabre and disgusting are the two words that come to mind. Black tar coloured humanoids crawl under these murky waters. Their limbs more like that of an arachnid than anything else.
Any boat unlucky enough to wander over one would certainly be killed. These creatures don't seem to discriminate their diet.

However, it was discovered bright lights - specifically hydrogen red neon - cause a violent reaction in these creatures' biology.
Upon contact with the light, they seem to experience rapid decay of the outer layers of their 'skin'. This effects their eyes as well, effectively blinding them should they stay any longer than a few seconds. You'll often only hear their shrieks of pain in the distance, rather than see them.

As such, every village and every city of this small planet shines blindingly through the perpetual night, giving it a distinct glow found nowhere else.
"A light of neon keeps the nightmares at bay." so they say."
