Yours eyes are so haunting. So sad. Makes me wanna shout to you: Hide, hide, close that gap! Makes me think of times when I was a child hiding under my blanket, with no-one to turn to in my fears. Pretending I'm already dead so no-one can harm me anymore... That thing (looks like a moon) looks like a very feeble guardian charm for the hiding place.

The hanging thing is a child's toy- Winnie the Pooh. My mother's pet name for me.
There is much of childhood in this picture.

it's got a rather cartoony feel to me, like a child character afraid of a monster (imagined or real) huddling under his/her blanket shaking in fear. and always only the eyes are drawn.

it is like you are saying. go away! leave me alone! i'm NOT HERE!!

Heh... well that look seems so sad... its like she feels imprisonned and scared in that hiding place instead of feeling secure...

It's a Winnie the Pooh doll I found on the street.
He's suspended by string.
It's a personal touch, my mother's name for me since I was a baby was 'ooh' or 'ooh Bear'.
Actually she still calls me that.

I like this piece. The lighting was done very well. My interpretation hinges upon the fact that the lighting allows the curtain to be translucent, allowing for the subject's profile to be seen instead of truly being hidden, if the curtain was opaque. This is indicative of the thoughts of any child...she is safe as long as she does not see what she is hiding from (that which she is hiding from can see her; it is the child's thoughts that empower what she is hiding from to do harm toward her, that is, purely in her mind). Of course, I may be over thinking this as I often do. Again, very well done.

lovely texture and amazing lighting... I always have trouble getting the right lighting for subjects hiding behind a curtain

is that a banana in pajamas?

I'm way past being a child, but I still hide from people most of the time.

This is such a great piece of work. It must be a sort of exorcism for you relive such personal issues through your work. I know I do most of the time, but not quite so directly. To me, it does give your work a certain validity that most of the "pretty little fantasy girl" art on this site just can't match. Every new pic from you in my watch list seems like an outpouring of emotion rather than just an pretty picture.

It reminds me of child nightmare. The longer I watch it the more intensive the tension is.

she's hiding. it is a childhood image.

judith-and-head In reply to lauren-rabbit [2007-08-30 05:09:07 +0000 UTC]

I see she's hiding . That's maybe the reason, why the longer I stare the more frightened she looks. That's very interesting experience. It was (for me) more like watching a movie than a picture, cause emotions were changing gradually and I was feeling as if I was closer and closer to her. Really good job.

thank you. I believe I do have a cinematic mind in some sense. My exposures are so long- from minutes to hours-that they do record the passage of time.

...peek-a-boo...it is almost nostalgic, although not as sweet coming to think of the (false) sense of security offered by the sort, and of course, from where/whom you're hiding...who's that in front?

lauren-rabbit In reply to LesSabots [2007-08-29 18:44:20 +0000 UTC]

Winnie the Pooh. My mom's name for me has always been 'ooh Bear' so it carries a certain nostalgia.
