This was my first Labradorite specimen. Before I got this piece, it was tumbled stones only. After admiring its rough side I saw that un-polished stones can be pretty too.

Those blue sections have real life in them don't they?

They do. It looks gorgeous when you put it in the sunlight and turn it. It still shows up well under the low-light of my room lights, but not as brilliantly though.

Beautiful! Labradorite is definitely one of my favourite minerals, though I've only managed to find one sliced and polished piece at a gem show. I'm still hoping I can eventually find a better specimen, preferably out in the field. In short, I am jealous. : )

Thanks! It is my favorite.
I got mine at a small rock shop that's now closed for family business. They had a few other pieces, some more iridescent than this one, but they were smaller and I didn't like their shapes.
What I'm wanting is a large, complete rough 'raw' mineral specimen(and the cash to buy it -haha).

Ah, good call then, especially if they were all the same price.
A large specimen like that would be heavenly. I got a small slab that's roughly 5 x 5 x 1 and THAT cost me about $20: ( Ah well, at least it still shines the same!

This one was actually the largest and most expensive. They had one that was shaped almost like a J and it had lengthwise stripes of gold! But it was pretty small(should have gotten it too-darnit). This one is 4.25 x 2.5 x 1.75 inches at the longest, widest and deepest points.
What unit of measure are you using? Centimeters?
This one cost me $17, I talked the guy down from $30!(They were trying to move a bunch of stuff before they went out of business-good for me bad for them).

That J shape does seem awkward though. :S I guess I'm just a fan of massive stuff.
Ah! Sorry, yes it was centimetres. I WISH I got a piece in those dimensions in inches! Also, that is an AMAZING price! (I still would have bought it for $30, but I also have terrible haggling abilities). Ah, out of business sales. So sad, but so amazing. Unfortunately (fortunately?) they don't happen often where I live. The most we get are BARS going out of business which are then replaced by other bars the following week. So yeah.

The J shaped one can only be displayed in one position to show off its beauty, and it doesn't sit naturally in that position on a flat surface, but otherwise a fantastic specimen.
This one sits perfectly, but not to show off this much color, you can see a bright blue point on the top and a gold one on the bottom when laid on its side. When you have the rough side towards you, the iridescent top point is shiny when you look at it from a certain vantage. When I first got it, I hated that huge black 'vein', now I really like it. It is much denser/harder than the res., I don't know what it is, but it looks cool.
Yeah, out of business sale. I had to fight myself from spending every dollar in my wallet. I bought a dozen or so tumbled stones and this one as my 'centerpiece'. When I find another rock shop, I'm going to start collecting some rough pieces.
I don't have much space to display them, with my 15 cameras(given to me, I've only bought a few of them)and toys taking up most of my shelf space on top of my entertainment center and computer desk, but I'll find somewhere.

Thanks. It's my first 'real' sized rock, all of the other ones I bought and found are small tumbled stones.

I know how I felt when I got my first stone bigger than ordinary pebble. Incidentally, it was labradorite.
I like yours too.

They had so many other rocks that I wanted to get, but I had to limit myself to getting just one 'centerpiece' rock. They had other labradorite rocks that were more 'iridescent', but this one was their largest and still pretty.

Oh, I understand you. Especially since there aren't many places you can buy minerals and gemstones in my country. I always seek to find the best value for my money.

Actually, he gave me the discount because I had bought so many rocks AND he was closing out his business to take care of his dad who's cancer had taken a turn for the worse. I don't think it was that much money, after the discount it was about $50 total. I had to restrain myself from buying all of the rocks I wanted, even though he was giving the discount I still couldn't spend all of my cash.
