(Left one is from imagination, right one photo study)
For illustrators there are no borderlines. When you have the pencil you decide what a character is going to look like. However, knowledge of real body proportions and bone structure helps massively to play with body freely in later experimentation stages. The above is not extreme example, they differ only slightly, yet visibly.

The best way to decide would be to draw the characters again in the same poses but in the other style.

The question is much more difficult than it looks. Obviously, I tend to answer to the related "which character do you like most?" question, to which I'd answer the left one.
With some effort, anyway, I was able to decide that, talking about the style, I probably like the right one the most.
But I could still be biased.
