One day Nekros and Excalibur were high on space weed. Excalibur was curious what would happen if a warframe soul punch another warframe. So he asked Nekros to soul punch him really hard and immediately regretted his decision. Nekros soul punched Excalibur so hard until the evil within him was completely separated from him. Reminds me of Persona, where your "dark shadow" lures you into a dungeon to conquer you and take over the control.
Or maybe The Lotus sends you on all these missions so you have to encounter him and fight your inner demons *conspiracy theory ahead*
