Shuhei Hisagi from BleachWell, I wasn't planning on drawing last night. My hand was kinda sore from doing the last two pictures in one night, but I really wanted to try and do a closer portrait of Hisagi. I'm afraid this time I might have flavored him a tad to much towards my taste (What! I like drawing pretty boys!), but it was fun, so...

Yeah, I actually injured my hand in a car accident. Really minor injury I thought, and this was what...a year ago almost. But it did permanent damage. It still gets sore and those two fingers are weaker than the rest.

Aww, I'm sorry about the accident. We should be thankful that it wasn't to bad so that you couldnt draw as much anymore. Even still, it looks amazing!

I still can't believe I injured my DRAWING hand though, hehe. Such a pain in the rear. Ah well, that's life, and yes as you say, at least I didn't make it so I couldn't draw anymore. Though it did take me a while to learn again how to spin the pencil while shading, because I lost a little muscle control in those fingers. The tendon kinks up and gets tight, and then I fumble.

Well, I don't, cuz I dont like spending to much time while I draw, so. Just use a blender

Oh, I use paper blending tools more than I use a pencil, but the point of spinning the pencil while shading is to sharpen it evenly. It's great for when you have large dark area's to work on. 
What kind of pencils do you have?

Ok, I'll try it. My pencils? Most of the time I'll just use a mechanical, but sometimes I use faber castle pencils. Usually 2h, hb, and 3h

Ah, I actually use a 6B woodless graphite Pentalic for most of my work, and then the mechanical pencil for the details. I find the 6B gets dark enough to get things really black, but at the same time, it is a good texture for spreading about with my paper blender to shade.
Just something to think about if you should decide to do more semi-realism work. I actually have a bunch of woodless graphite HB-9B, but 6B is my favorite.

Hmm, interesting. I don't think I'll ever draw realistic much, cuz it will always end up looking like anime, so I'll never get it right XD

My sister did it, but I'm saying that mine doesn't look at all realistic. It just turns out like any other anime drawing that I would do

Right, but how long did you work at it? It took me a year to establish my semi-realism style, and it's still expanding and changing and adapting.

Sounds like you had a really good start on it, and your work that you've posted shows serious improvement. What has you so discouraged now? Seems to me you are well on your way.

That's what I meant, it's your first time, so you should cut yourself a lot of slack if you mess up. You can always draw him again!

Do you ever get all the way done, feel really happy about it. Put it away, and then when you look at it next, you see a great big flaw you somehow totally missed while you were working on it?

Seriously, it was one of my M21 drawings, and I never did succeed at getting his mouth where it belonged. I mean, normally I'd be all for dreaming about M21, but in this particular case, he was scolding me for being a lousy artist, so it wasn't so much fun as say the "I've got him tied up in my closet" variety.
