....a view as if you were about to use it.....I find the english word for these, SMALLSWORD, to be more precise....
These smallswords are not meant to cut, they are only for stabbing, and they are very light and fast.....combat would not last for very long....they were a symbol of authority, the higher rank, the better the weapon...
They were mostly used for duels, it is said that Napoleon lost more officiers to duels than during battles......a gorgeous film about duels and the madness of men is the Duellists [link]
Pretty sure it is Ridley Scott first movie....and Harvey Keitel is such a badass....

Well thanks, it is a replica, not an original, but based on a french smallsword around 1743ish....made by Arms & Armor, go check their site....they make a lot of rapiers....seen this pov [link]
