Thanks George wasn't sure if I'd be able to catch the color as the light had changed by the time I got back to it...when I first went out to work on this shot is when my daughter found the little snake and of course we had to go play with it!

I love them too! These little wild ones aren't as flashy as the ones that many people have in their gardens but they sure are fun to have on our hills Thanks for your comment

It's pretty rare here to have poppies in gardens but we have bright red ones in the fields and near country roads - look so pretty.

these are wild too - similar to the orange garden ones but smaller and a bit more yellow...all of the ones in my gallery are from the hills of our "yard" I'd love to see fields with the red ones!! I love people's views of the red poppies in the wheat fields

I don't think I've ever seen any other colour than red in Sweden, I might have seen some other colour at herb gardens but they grow them there so it's not really the same.

I thought so too! The light was just calling to me If you have any garden space I'm pretty sure you could get them to grow...we don't do anything to or for them here - these are all wild...

We are way to hot and dry here I'm sure, we get sometimes 30-40 days over over 100°. I would have to pamper them in order to make them grow and probably keep them in some sort of green house to keep all the nasty bugs and critters etc. from eating them. LOL

we get hot too, though with maybe that many days over 100, and we usually get no (or very, very little) rain from about April until October. By the time it gets really hot and dry the wild flowers have died back because of no rain...they'd probably do ok in an area that gets a bit of shade as long as you water some every few days - thinking about it the seed packet, garden bred variety may be tougher and longer living than the wild ones...don't know who'd eat them - the deer don't!

You know, I may try and plant some in my back yard where they would get some shade from the trees overhead. That might work. And if they only bloom really in the spring, then they won't have to deal with all the heat. We pretty much have the same pattern as far as rain, we just get seriously HOT temps. Which I am not looking forward too.

kayaksailor In reply to cybelemoon [2013-03-20 05:32:20 +0000 UTC]

I'm re-thinking my 'shade' advice - while driving today I noticed that most of them were blooming on the hills between the trees so maybe you'd better read the instructions on the packet
