Description
In today's warmup object study, I'm practicing owning my imperfections. That Portland-ish, coffee-shop art-style lends itself to this practice very well. Drawn without erasing — and man, that bottom curve really lets it show!I'm not the best artist, but my personal art history tells me that I've let that fact keep me from creating anything at all, which has kept me from practicing, which has preserved me as not the best artist. A self-fulfilling prophesy! The saints say that this is true in spiritual endeavors, which naturally expands to anything that needs practice, experience, and devotion, like artistic mastery. You just have to keep going. Those who endure to the end will be saved (from their bad art?).
So here's my not-that-great cup of tea, created in hope of improvement.

Aw, haha, thanks Matt! I bet you'd find that it would look okay though. Look how wonky that bottom bit of the cup is! Man oh man!

I like it! The bottom curve may be a bit wonky, but I think that adds to its charm. I could totally see this in a department store decorating kitchen goods of some sort Not much of my art does what I want it to, and I quit for quite a few years for the exact reason you mentioned. Best just to plug on and keep producing, no?

Indeedly! I'm trying not to get discouraged and rough through this "dry patch" in art I'm going through. I'm very disappointed in my work right now, but I just need to keep producing. Just got to stay focused and not give up!

Yes! For sure, don't give up! Like I said before, I almost completely gave up for like 10 years and got super rusty. Poke around my gallery and you can tell from some of my first posts, heh. Just keep producing, like you said. I think your backgrounds are beautiful by the way, but I think I already mentioned that. Such a lovely painterly style

Thank you so much! That's really encouraging. I've wanted to be a background painter for video games since I was very little. I loved games that had these gorgeous backgrounds, and I wanted to be involved making them. Technology has sort of outdated that style, which is a total bummer, but the skill is still a good one anyway. I guess I'll keep developing it all the same. :3
