Thought I'd paint Howl from Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle .
Done in PSCS6 and Painter 12
Stock used (brushes and stuff) is mine with purchased license.

Well, I posted a comment earlier, but it didn't show for some reason so here I go again. Do you use real people as models for your pics, or do you draw from your imagination? One reason I ask is that Howl's face looks vaguely familiar to me; sounds weird I know? Also, some artists use the same face(s) for all people they draw, but you don't it seems. I'm glad. Last, is there a name for the kind of art you do here? It almost looks like a photo. I paint oil portraits, but they still look like paintings, if you know what I mean. Your work looks so realistic; fascinating.

Thank you for your reply. I guess I am wondering if your work is what's called digital art. What materials do you use to "paint" with? I use oil-based paint. I learned to draw with real models in the studio then drew on the faces from various media and combinations, but have found it difficult to draw from my imagination so I admire artists who have this talent.

In fact, I don't use real models for my pictures. I just really try to make them look like different people. It actually takes me a very long time to do faces because I want them to be unique. However, I still get people who disagree with you and tell me I have "same face syndrome" ( where an artist' faces always look similar) lol. So who knows.
I think if I were to name this style, "semi-realism" is what I would call it. So it's treated like a realistic painting. Rendered very much 3D and very detailed, but it is not quite real. It's still stylized, the people still don't look quite real (things like, larger eyes, maybe their noses are always straight skin always super clear, they are on average better looking than real life etc etc).

Holy, epically magnificent! This Incarnation of Howl is stunning and The Fireworks look incredible!
