welcome.
is the minimalism effect what you were trying to accomplish in this set?
i've noticed that each series seems to become more precise with time. what do you feel is your biggest inspiration when it comes to themes?
for me, it happens to be the inability of normal people to form coherent theses. yes, i'm surrounded by idiots, but at least i have plenty to write about. are your circumstances similar, or do I have something to look forward to by traveling to europe? ^__^

Actually, this was quite improvised: except for theme of the Styx, I didn't had any clue on what I'll do. I had booked boat for the session, expecting to shoot my photos inside it but the outside seemed more interesting to me. That's how we came up with this.
I asked her to dress with a white coat and matching pants, to it quite worked with the boat itself.
I don't know what is my biggest inspiration. I'm inspired by places, by the model and by books I read. Movies, illustrations... lots of things. But what I try is to make something emotional, hence the afterlife / love / relationship themes.

i see.
when i was younger, i remember distinctly that my two major influences were fellini's 8 1/2 and akira kurosawa's dreams.
i feel like all of my adult life has been spent emulating that sort of comfortable surrealism, and holding similar works of art up to that same criteria.
i am glad to see that other people are not so constrained, but i am also glad to see that what i enjoy as artwork is still visually appealing to the critics of the day.
your work, to me- represents the perfect mix between classical practicality, and modern sensibility. if i were a photographer, i wouldn't be ashamed to emulate what you do.

I think what we see when we are young influences us.
I've been quite a fan of Magritte's work for years (since I was a teenager) as well as Dino Buzzati's short stories. I can clearly see an influence on my work: surrealism and magic in reality. That's exactly why I enjoy now Gregory Crewdson (photographer), Shaun Tan (illustrator) or Haruki Murakami (writer) - they also share the same approach.

oh yes, the wind-up-bird chronicles blew my mind as a teenager. i didn't know people were allowed to think things like that.

What a theme! And the use of a ship is a great thing! Is she alone there on her vessel that travels the thin line between both worlds or just the open seas of the Other Side?
