Description Well, can you?

Perhaps it's not so much a matter of whether you can see it or not - it's what it makes you see. ~AnanziP1 and I sometimes get together and just listen to music, and talk about what we see in it. In this case, it's not quite what I saw, but rather what I felt. If you're interested, I was listening to music by Edgar Muenala - there's something deep and rich and divine about this sort of music, something transcendant that goes beyond sound alone. I feel sort of lame talking about it now and seeing it in tangible form yet in a state that's so much more impotent than it was before it existed. Well, I tried.

Do any of you ever just listen to music, to see where it takes you? And what was the most interesting thing you found there?

By the way, I'm not used to doing things as abstract as this, nor am I practiced in depicting starscapes or cosmic scenes, so please forgive the relative weakness of this piece. It was just me transforming what I felt into a rough visual form as I listened.

Adobe PhotoShop 7.0. Just over an hour (I wasted a lot of that time in a bit of a trance...) 20.

No, it's quite common, I think. I've had a conductor for honour orchestra where he described things in terms of colour. "More gold," he would say, or "Think deep red, not yellow." Things like that.

Me? I tend to see things cinematically, not just textures and whatnot - I'll imagine a stag running through a forest, or an epic battle, or the cry of a lover as he searches for his lost one.

Hmm... You may like G-Force and/or Whitecap. They are music visualizations, and they're really, really good. Really hypnotic. You might find them to your liking.

Have you tried watching the Milkdrop screen display that comes with Winamp? There are some lovely image generation algorithms that are directly influenced by the music that is played.

I'm sorry, it's just the title reminds me of people on ecstasy. No offense though, I know what you were saying, I just have this...mind...warped by society. I think the picture has lots of feeling, and I think when drawing what you see in the music it shouldn't look too polished... just because that's how I feel about it. I like to just listen to the band A Perfect Circle, just laying on my bed in the dark. They're the only band I can really do that with because most of the other music I listen to is much heavier, and they have this depth to their music.

Oh dear, I just created a rant! Gaagh, I hate when I do that! Even if it is a small one, I apologize for taking up space.

thank you for showing us a glimpse of your psyche...or at least a sense of how much you actually appreciate music...I think I will try to do a piece based on what I see when I allow myself to be warped away from reality by music...

I'll let you know how my experience turns out

Yes I have listened to music to see where it takes me. It usually takes me to the artsy part of my brain and I get REALLY creative. Like this past week, when I produced three really interesting pictures in less than a week and a half. I've never done that before without the aid of music. Music is where I get the best and most creative art ideas and draw them on paper. Anyway, very nice picture for something produced in just an hour! And on Adobe Photoshop 7.0 no less! I too have Adobe Photoshop 7.0! +favlove!

Sincerely,
~Reb29
