Day 1 of Folktober: Lange Man/Tall Man

The Low Lands know several mysterious tall men. In Flanders, there is an apparation that takes the shape of a tall, dark humanoid that hovers slightly above the road. It aids travellers finding their way home at night.
There's also of course the Lange Wapper from Antwerp, a water devil that can shapeshift itself as tall as it wants to be, and torments drunkards and cheaters.

This depiction is of the Lange Man of Maastricht, in the southern most part of the Netherlands. At night, it climbs out of basement windows and grows itself beyond the rooftops themselves, and looks into the windows of the sleeping inhabitants. When one sees de Lange Man, it's said to be an ill omen, as soon after you or your loved ones will be struck by plague and disease.

Glad to be getting back into traditional work again! It takes a bit getting used to again ( The perspective in this piece is all over the place) but I'm relateively satisfied by the result!

Tomorrow we'll be tackling the Alvermannetjes/Earth Spirits!
