Description
The smells in the tent made Swala feel ill. But he still put up a brave face. He didn't want to worry anyone, even if he was feeling quite under the weather. The dusty tent was lit suddenly when the fabric was pulled aside, and a green-skinned oni walked in.
''Hello, my dear! I waited for you'', the local shaman spoke happily, leaning away from Swala. He let out a little cough, hiding it under his paw.
''Is everything alright?'' oni asked, tilting her head. She looked into the pup with red eyes, making the kukuri puff his tail a bit. The shaman turned her head, jewelry in her horns glittering in the light. She was Kannus, a mysterious prairie who had seemingly endless supply of knowledge and expertice to heal almost anything in the Exiled lands. But she also had many hands helping her in her tasks, and couldn't heal without right set of supplies.
''The pups are suffering from chronic sodium chloride deficiency'', Kannus said, rubbing her cheek. The oni on the door blinked couple times, and her tail swiped from side to side.
''They lack salt'', the prairie added smiling. It made another female nod finally, lifting her eyebrows a little. Swala looked the scars parting the green skin on her shoulder, where she was missing a hand. Kannus had once saved her from death and replaced the injured, amputated hand with a ghost crystal that was now glowing ever-so-slightly in the tent. The tiny pup laid his eyes on the ground, trying not to stare too much of the oni.
''I need your help to get some salt, Sudenlaulu'', Kannus said casually.
''Funny, in this heat I'd thought salt would be last thing people are looking for'', Sudenlaulu chuckled. Kannus let out a small smile.
''We sweat, don't we? And by sweating we loose all kinds of valuables from the body. Currently the pups require something more potent to replace what they've lost'', she explained kindly, ''Also, I have jerky I need to season.''
''Ah, right'', the oni turned serious again. She tilted her head a bit, hair flowing in the air like it was underwater. Swala knew it was caused by the magic hand, but it was still mesmerizing to watch. He followed its movement when oni turned her head again.
''So, where we can find the salt?'' she asked. Kannus checked where her sundial was pointing at, before pointing towards north-west.
''Just edge of the Exiled lands is a dry salt lake. Its air is toxic so please wear a mask when venturing in'', the prairie explained, ''It's in middle of a canyon so it's hard to miss, but if you approach from south you should be able to see it.'' Sudenlaulu looked a little weary for a moment, before nodding and smiling. She picked up a bag from tent's corner and took the mask hanging on the pole nearby.
''We'll return soon'', she said, disappearing outside. Swala blinked couple times when tent turned dark again and Kannus leaned towards him. She pet his head with her big paw.
''Now sleep. You'll soon feel alright'', she whispered and laid the pup on the bed, where he curled up, tugging his nose under his tail and closed his eyes.

It's so weird to write about a kukuri having a conversation. Kannus is an old shaman, reborn from countless lives and she keeps whatever she learns from her previous lives, including speech. My kukuris usually can't speak and are more like dogs than anything, but she is just... her own chapter. I like her.
Also when will I learn not to do two-panel entries when I'm on a deadline?
