Fibromyalgia (FM or FMS) is a medical disorder characterized by chronic widespread pain and allodynia, a heightened and painful response to pressure. (The term "fibromyalgia" derives from new Latin, fibro-, meaning "fibrous tissues", Greek myo-, "muscle", and Greek algos-, "pain"; thus the term literally means "muscle and connective tissue pain".)
Fibromyalgia symptoms are not restricted to pain, leading to the use of the alternative term "fibromyalgia syndrome" for the condition. Other symptoms include: debilitating fatigue, sleep disturbance, and joint stiffness. Some patients also report difficulty with swallowing, bowel and bladder abnormalities, numbness and tingling, and cognitive dysfunction. Fibromyalgia is frequently comorbid with psychiatric conditions such as depression and anxiety and stress-related disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder. Not all fibromyalgia patients experience all associated symptoms. Some individuals have other senses heightened as well, like better hearing or an acute sensitivity to scents.
The brain's of fibromyalgia patients show functional and structural differences from those of healthy individuals, but it is unclear whether the brain anomalies cause fibromyalgia symptoms or are the product of an unknown underlying common cause. Some research suggests that these brain anomalies may be the result of childhood stress or fetal injury, severe emotional or physical trauma, and prolonged or severe stress. It is hypothesized that this trauma short-circuits the brain, turns your fight-or-flight response on, and then it stays on.
Historically, fibromyalgia has been considered either a musculoskeletal disease or neuropsychiatric condition. Although there is as yet no cure for fibromyalgia, some treatments have been shown by controlled clinical trials to effectively reduce symptoms, including medications, behavioral interventions, patient education, and exercise. The most recent approach of a diagnosis of fibromyalgia involves pain index and a measure of key symptoms and severity.
If you or you think a loved one may have Fibromyalgia, please tell your Doctor and get a referral to a Rheumatologist.

2012 ? Don't you shoot anymore ? It would be a real shame...
For your fibro issue, you can try selenium and iode supplements (magnesium and vit. D too), I have read it helps. But a detox would help too, with silicium amongst others, as fibro is often caused by aluminium. Aluminium merges with ferritine and lowers the serotonine (thus depression) and acetylcholine. You may have thyroid problems as well.

It can get very severe, to where your life pretty much stops. Some people function well with it, others have it and steadily it gets worse, mine peaks and valleys. It's really horrible. I hope your friend finds something to help ease her pain.

She has her ups and downs. It seems to affect her more when she gets over heated on hot days
