The species has solitary and restricted arboreal habits. It has daytime and nighttime activity depending on the area or region.
Recent studies indicate that some individuals, from the same locality, may have diurnal activity, while others have nocturnal activity (Chiarello 2008b).
The diet of this species is strictly folivorous, consisting of tree and vine species. It feeds preferentially on younger leaves and, rarely, on flowers and fruits (Chiarello 1998b).
