Description
well I heard many requests of doing more and so I did, this is one of the few and more Godzilla fanart that I will be Submitting. Here is Rodan in the way I think would be in the Godzilla 2014 style. Originally I was going to have Rodan against Godzilla but I realized I have done something similar with Mothra and I want each one to be unique in its own way. so I made this through a perspective of human eyes (since in the 2014 film and all the other Toho Godzilla films had that perspective a lot). this is done with mostly 3d sculpting and 3d rendering with painted elements like the sky, the windshield, the metal frame and some details. So whats going on is two jet pilots Owen Mathews and Haruko Mori(best friends since they dream about being apart of the air force) were on they're way back to base after a flight training. Back at Base monitoring the two pilots they picked up something on Radar which they were confused at first believing it was some interference from the storm due to its massive size but quickly realize that it changed its course towards the pilots, following them from behind. the pilots were receiving faulty communication back from the base but could not understand. then their radars showed a confusing form that showed it was right on them during their struggle flying through Horrible turbulence. the turbulence was still and they gain control but realizing the skies got calm in a silent eerie way. A giant form broke through the clouds diving towards them from above, they both realized and parted away. The Giant form dive past them which caused them to lose control due to massive turbulence. they gained control when they saw that the form was way up ahead Flying towards them A form which they made out as a Giant M.U.F.O They maneuvered away from it when the beast almost snapped at one of them. But Owens jet was critical and could not take anymore of the strong force of turbulence caused by the beast as it flies. they try to report back to base that they are in serious trouble and Dose not know what to do but could not get a response. The M.U.F.O was chasing them from behind Haruko knew that Owen was in bad shape and that the M.U.F.O was chasing Owen. Haruko distracted the Beast by shooting at it with missiles (no damage) which only caught its attention and started chasing after Haruko. Haruko divided away from course trying to lead it the other way for Owen to get back to base a report what has happened. Haruko got hit enough by one of its wings where it made his jet lose control. Haruko lead the M.U.F.O away and Haruko tries to eject but could not. He tell Owen the situation and that he will not make it and tell him to tell his Daughter that he loves her right before the M.U.F.O catches the jet in its mouth where the Jet explodes as it bit down. Owen manages to get back to base where he landed bad which he was sent to the hospital. After he woke up he was met by Dr. Ishiro Serizawa and told him what has happened and what he saw. Serizawa was stunned to hear this
and said "Rodan has awaken"
Pardon if it seems either cliché thought it would be fun if I added a little story to my art.
(thought of M.U.F.O since in the 2014 movie M.U.T.O is a Anagram which stands for Massive Undeditified Terrestrial Organism which technically that means all Kaiju And even Godzilla at first would be given this Placeholder name at first since they are unidentified at the moment until they are either Recognized or given a name. Almost like John Doe or Jane Doe for unidentified People until recognized. M.U.F.O is me changing one word that would be for Flying Kaiju like Rodan or Mothra [Massive Undentifying Flying Organism].)
Here is my other Godzilla fan art.

Beautifully executed. You capture this amazing amount of detail and the pure feelings of both awe and terror almost effortlessly.
Words honestly fail me to properly describe how you manage to make Rodan fit into the Legendary Pictures Monster-Verse, without losing the traits his OG counterpart made famous.
And though we now have an official look at what Legendary has done for the Rodan design, this will always be in my head. If I had to say anything negative, I would say that having a red glow of some kind coming out of Rodan's mouth would add a nice touch.
Like he's about to set that fighter on fire as he devours it.
Other than that, you did amazing! Please never stop making pictures like this!

this artwork is amazing, honestly many people could mistake this for something that you would actually see in the movies, the lighting is amazing, the angle is perfect, and all around this picture has a scary but amazing feel to it. i am actually stunned by the level of detail and effort in this picture, it might just be me but it feels almost real. you did everything, even adding a reflection of the jets opening window. the sizing isn't outrageous either. Honestly, i don't think I'm able to see anything wrong with this piece, so all and all, good job

In 1956, Rodan shocked the world with his supersonic speed and also showed just how tragic a Kaiju can be. Throughout the years, Rodan has played a big role in the series from becoming one of Godzilla's first and closest allies to reviving the King of Monsters in the 90's, showing just how noble Rodan is not just as a Kaiju, but as a character. This piece shows just how amazing Rodan is. Like the 2014 film Godzilla, it shows the monster from our point of view, not making us feel just how small we are but just how massive these creatures are as well. The lighting is superb with very well placed shading, the detail is incredible; I can see Rodan's fine sized teeth without having to zoom in but the best part of this piece, by far, is the sense of scale. Like Pacific Rim, the scale is one of the most important aspects necessary and this piece captures it beautifully. It''s original, has great vision, the technique is wonderful and has left a fantastic impact on me. Here's to seeing Rodan in 2018.

I did not need to read through the text to say, that that creature is Godzilla worthy. Very massive, I can feel the vibrations from its scream through the cockpit glass, all the way through the pilot's helmet. Soaring through the sky with this creature is like weathering a storm on a medium sized boat rocking on different directions as it flaps its wings. Looking at the thick skin and muscular built of that creature, this pilot's probably clouded with thoughts of: "How much time do we have to buy until Godzilla arrives?"
Yes, the creature is alive and has been constructed and posed in a very effective manner. It is more than just breathing. It is drawing all the air forcefully out of its lungs with a super sized scream. Flight for that size and weight could have been a problem though but this is a Godzilla movie.
Last but not the least, I saw this artwork in the middle of other good artworks. And even the thumbnail was so effective it makes one want to click it before everything else being advertised on the "what's hot" page.

This is very incredible work here. I think it was a good choice for you to make something different rather than Godzilla & Rodan squaring off like people usually draw. I love the idea of having a human perspective of the situation. I can honestly see this being in a Godzilla movie. However, their are some things that could be fixed to make this look slightly better. For example, the lower half of Rodan seems a bit...off. The knees seem a bit off compared to the rest of the body. All in all though, this is a solid piece of work. Really stellar work, keep it up!

So let me start out by saying this is in fact some of the most insane and amazing Godzilla/TOHO artwork period. You captured the essence of a "Giant Pterodactyl" capable of destroying cities. You took an old monster and made him new again.
Onto the actual artwork critique. The texturing of Rodan is simply awesome. Awesome job on his wings, chest, and especially his head. The jet does a very nice job showcasing how big this monster really is. All of the lighting is perfect. Coloring is amazing. You do an amazing job. This monster hatched from an egg in the depths of a mountain. He's not gonna be vibrant and shiny. He's gonna look dull and aged. He's been around for a very very long time. And you done an excellent job showing us that. Also placing us "inside the cockpit" makes me feel like I am right there.
The only reason I did not give you 5 stars under originality is because he is from TOHO. You did amazing! Love it!

I love this! Rodan has rarely appeared to be a fierce force of sonic winds and lightening speed of the skies. Here, your illustration and artwork exceeds my expectations! Here, Rodan is depicted as an unstoppable force of storm and speed. I absolutely love the reflections and the shadings used in this art. Originally, I would've liked to have seen Rodan have water falling off his wings or shoulders to make it look like he'd just risen from the seas, but I forgot he's not Godzilla, and he is also a Mutation of the skies; a pterodactyl-like creature. Anyway, I would definitely give this 4.5/5 stars! One question though, and this confused me quite a bit: I am familiar with the acronym "M.U.T.O", since it was used in 2014's "Godzilla." What is a "M.U.F.O."? I think it's safe to say that I am not the only one wondering what that acronym stands for. Thanks for this wonderful, jaw-dropping, one-of-a-kind masterpiece! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Awesome job man. Rodan is my favorite monster so to see Rodan portrayed in such an epic fashion is really. Nice job on capturing an organic musculature. He looks pretty realistic. The tone and atmosphere is also well done, The gray colds serve as a nice backdrop for rod an to pop out at, and the pilot looks especially well done. Love the scratches, dents, and reflection is the glass too. Another note is the perspective. Whether it was intentional or not you did a nice job homaging Garteth Edwards style of cinematography, showing the action of a human perspective rather than a camera. My only critique would be on the Rodan wing design. I feel the membrane of wing stops too high up on his body. Typically for pteranodon's their wings meet at their legs. But aside from that I still love the picture. Definitely making it my desktop background. Nice job man. Looking forward to more in the future.

As a long time fan of Japanese Kaiju, or Daikaiju as giant monsters are properly called, and more specifically the Godzilla franchise i have to say this is an absolutely stunning depiction of how Rodan would look like in the 2014 style. I would point out that, in my own opinion, that the eye looks a bit small for the body. However when compared to the 2014 Godzilla it fits the style. The texture of the skin is what really draws my attention. You obviously put in a lot of time and effort into the artwork and i think truely capture what Rodan would be like in real life.
Being from the viewpoint of the pilot definitely adds the the image and is unique for a Kaiju art piece.
I say keep up the good work and i look forward to seeing more of your Kaiju depictions. I especially look forward to seeing if you will be making any artwork for Gigan, King Ghidorah, or Destroyah

If we were to never get another Godzilla movie from Edwards ever again, which I highly, highly doubt, I would simply point this and Arrogance of Man has proof of concepts to enthusiasts who would've longed so see their favorite monsters redesigned.
This Rodan is indeed TERRIFYING to see, especially on this artwork's largest setting, with countless scales and bony spikes along this giants body, along with muscles you can just feel in it's immense wings and shoulders. The maw of the beast, along with it's yellow eye, it quite unsettling for me.
I applaud the perspective view of inside the cockpit, giving a claustrophobic edge to an already intense scene of death in the sky. And look at all those scratches on the glass, with slight smudges here and there. Talk about detail!
While I seriously suspect a King Ghidorah is coming (lord, can you imagine what this guy could do with a THREE headed dragon?!) I am fully pleased with new reinvention of a childhood favorite of mine.
The only thing I would suggest is...nothing.

Okay let's be clear here. This is amazing.I did not care this monster and barely knew existed considering it a lame extra. After i saw this i did some additional research on Rodan and i gotta say you're not just doing it justice; you are outright making Rodan badass. The technique is wonderful and the design is amazing taking points from the original but also adding a few extra horns, making it even more impossing and interesting, since the original was basically a giant pterodactyl. The choice of the point of view is also a very nice one showing Rodan in its full glory from the pilot's cockpit however i'm not sure if the proportions are actualy correct, but honestly i'm just nitpicking at this point.Wondeful work.

What can I say about this one? This looks like it could be in the Legendary Godzilla. You have once again made a piece like this that makes it look like a form of concept art that makes it look like it belongs in the movie. I can see this being a piece of a scene for the next Godzilla. With Godzilla becoming a success and now they're going to be making more the possibilities are just endless. Maybe Rodan might be in the next one. Rodan looks...I am so awestruck I am lost for words. You can perfectly see all the detailing on Rodan's body. Especially looking at the inside the cockpit it looks so realistic. You never fail to impress.

What can I say here that hasn't been said in my review of Arrogance of Man? The art is outstanding, once again capturing the realism that the film did. The way you have portrayed the skies in the background, as well as the monster and frightened pilot in the foreground, adds a terrifying, yet somewhat majestic look the creature. It is very clear to the people viewing this image that time and effort went into it. I am excited for your next piece from this franchise, and hopefully you can stun us all a third time with your beautiful work.

Sweet swirling onion rings!!! This is so amazingly detailed and textured, the depth is portrayed more then well and I love the perspective. I thought it was a photograph when I first saw it lol, it is very realistically done. The windshield effect is very good, and I like how there are scratches and realistic wear on it. Rodan looks absolutely amazing, well done on his mouth, and the texture of his skin is really well done too. Overall, fantastic drawing, I like dinosaurs and stuff so that's a big thumbs up for you hehe, I look forwards to more art from you.

I do not know how to say, but you do it very well!!!!!! I like the way how you incarnate the Toho design with a Modern day prehistoric version of Toho's Rodan, and it matches with the mood in this painting and to show how fierce Rodan is while he is attacking jet toys. And sir, I do not know what to say but, I think you have a bright future for your concept and for Legendary Pictures and for Gareth Edwards and Thomas Tull and Max Borenstein and they will be proud of you man. Nice work on it.

This is stunning. It made me feel like i was in the plane with the pilot and looking out at this beast that was flying past. The detail is fantastic and it gives off the feel that these things really do exist and share our skies.
It has not been rushed and thats what makes the impact that much more. You have thought about what you want the scene to portray and you have certainly pulled it off in style. the light hits it perfectly and the expression in the head turn of the pilot makes it even more so.

Sweet-freaking-LORD! This by far is the best interpretation of Rodan I have ever seen! While most often refer to his old model, you've managed to give the Kaiju a more realistic, and, TERRIFYING appearance! It actually looks like a pteradon, as to how its originally looked, but it still keeps to the same monstrous atmosphere that it held many years ago. Though a few people have decided to do a redesign of this beast already, you have definitely capture it the most!
By all means, this is one kaiju you don't want to fuck with, or else its your head!
