guys.Episode 22 ruined me so badly. I was so, so wrecked because I wasn't expecting them to explore Levi's character at all. Everything from his reaction to Mikasa's attachment to Eren (realizing that Eren was such an important person to Mikasa) to the whole added scene about him taking Petra's patch, that episode messed me up so badly.
I hope no one will say ever again that Levi is a cold and heartless character. Sure, he needs to put up somewhat of a cold exterior because him and Erwin are expected to lead the group and not break down--but just seeing him take Petra's patch, and then offering it to the soldier to give him some closure, that speaks lengths about Levi's character. That patch was the last thing he had to remember Petra by, but he gave it away so someone else could have closure. I can't even imagine what kind of burden Levi has on his shoulders.
I'm not a believer of Levi and Petra being a thing, I saw them more of a big brother, little sister type deal. Still, his squad must have been like family to him, and he lost everything within the span of probably less than 12 hours.

I finished watching episode 22 about an hour ago. I read the manga first, but the anime affected me really really deeper. I'm crying right now and it hurts. I feel so bad.

...Reading your description made me tear up again. I seriously hated Levi at first. But after this episode, my jaw dropped at how deep his emotions really go, and how much of a caring softy he really is. I can't ever say he's a cruel asshole again. He has his reasons. Even before this episode you kinda gained hints here and there, that he had his reasons, that he wasn't who he seemed...
...The scene with him and Petra's father...that....I felt so bad for Levi...seriously. Just the look on his face...Okay I need to go cry in a corner now. *grabs a blanket and bawls in a corner* TT_________________TT

T____T I'm so glad that you like Levi a bit more now! He does come off as an asshole at first and a lot of fans like him because he's the typical overpowered, quiet, mysterious character, but there is so much more to him than that. The episode had some scenes that weren't in the manga, but I think they did a good job with developing his character for what's coming up in the manga.
And god that scene with Petra's father kills me every time ;__;Β

I haven't seen the manga yet, and now I am not sure if I want to yet, after knowing that the anime adds MORE to the whole story than the manga does. I already have some spoilers regarding certain Titans, but that's about all I know. I can't decide if I want to read it or not.
Yeaaah...That episode really made me like Levi. He's not as much of a hardass as he lets on. I haven't watched the episode since Saturday...I might have to just to have it fresh in my mind for tomorrow.

Your art always makes me so emotional. This is beautiful. Beautiful and heartbreaking, on top of how emotionally scarring the episode itself was. The fact that they added the extra scenes... Oh, that was cruel. D:Β

Ep 22 was just so depressing asdfghjkl--- I literally cried my heart out, especially when Petra's father came up to Rivaille who had that expression and arggggghhhhh---- all my feels And yeah, when Heichou have him Petra's patch-- omfg I was about to just--- I admire Rivaille so much for doing that And I agree with you wholeheartedly--- whoever still says Rivaille's a cold and heartless character-- they have problems--
I think I would be even more depressed if I shipped Rivaille and Petra, which I don't ; ^ ; It was just plain depressing seeing Rivaille pass by his squad and--- I'm just gonna sob in the corner again--

Yeah I really wanted to give Levi a huge hug right there after the whole thing in episode 22... we indeed learned a lot more about him in this episode, and I love it.
People just gotta understand that he just really good at hiding his emotions than others, and I believe hes like this because he have seen plenty of people losing their loved ones every time they come back, less soldiers than when they first left.
I adore Levi, very much.

I definitely agree. I don't think the world is ready for Levi's backstory, especially if it's tragic. My poor heart will not be able to handle it T-T

We will probably won't know why Levi always look upset/angry/sad all the times, it has to do with his life as childhood.
But that one thing I like about him, he has been veryΒ mysterious to all of us, but only thing we know about him before Episode 22 was that he is the humanity's strongest soldier, the best one of all...
Hell, I've seen couple of fans drew some short comics/fanfics after this happened... Eren would talk to him and Levi eventually broke down (That was fanfics... Eh Eren x Levi, nothing sexual, just conversation between these two)
And a comic was of Eren crying, and Levi would just climb into his bed and told him that he'll spend the night with him and told Eren to cry for Levi because he doesn't think he could even cry, so Eren did it for him.
It's just heart-breaking for me, but I know that he will be ok, he got Eren though, and rest of the soldiers to rely on.

Thank you so much dear! I'm kind of in denial about Levi and Petra being a thing because I used to ship them so hard and then I got into Ereri but then every once in a while, Rivetra comes up again and I get all mushy and feely.

I've just watched the episode and your fanart touches me so much, I fail to properly express my feelings. I agree with your comment about Levi. It was a heart wrenching moment, really...back then in the manga I was able to bear it somehow, but while watching the anime I couldn't help but shed a tear or two (or more like one hundred hahaha) for Levi and his squad. I like them so much, it's such a pity they died so soon/fast. I.....gosh!!! /sobs

Oh my goodness the anime made everything that happened in this last arc like 4398534x more tragic. It must be the animation or the music or whatever but it was extremely well done because every episode kills me.
I'll miss his squad as well. Deaths don't usually hit me like this but there was something about Levi's squad that was just so unfortunate

Well, I guess rather than one specific aspect it was the combination of several things that made it a painful experience. The OST was awesome all along and the (mostly) great animation really adds to the atmosphere. I thought the pacing was quite okay for this arc, not too slow, not too fast. Oh and not to forget those additional scenes about Levi. Caring. Why don't you just rip my heart out directly, show? I can't even.....T___T
For me, it depends on the character if a death is painful or not. Levi's squad appealed to me from the beginning anf I really thought they'd stick around for a while. It was a big shock to see them go so fast, to be honest.Β

i think i can easily say that this weeks ep is my favourite because of the outstanding character development
god this show is just A++ at making me feel absolutely terrible for all of the characters, every single fucking one of them TT^TT;
i just really love how levi's character is handled, he's such a composed adult, and so self sacrificing, it's absolutely amazing Q__Q
and the last scene also really spoke to me because jesus christ there's an extent to which these kids (wHICH IS WAHT THEY ARE, FUCKING CHILDREN)) can be physically and mentally abused. to come back to a town ungrateful that considers you an idiot and waste of space for putting your life on the line, i just can't stand it. i can only imagine how the towns people's words will be echoing in everyones heads as they try to fall asleep.

Oh yes, I definitely agree. This ep was probably the saddest episode of anything I've ever watched, but it was so well done. I literally get goosebumps during some scenes of this show, it's amazing.
That last scene really got me as well :\ When I read the manga, the panel with Eren sobbing into his hand kind of stabbed at my heart a bit, but holy crap did it make me a full-blown mess when it was animated. The whole parallel with the flashback and the children in the scene got to me as well.
And nono, don't be sorry! I totally have a ton of feels for them as well XD

Can you believe I have seen people get MAD over this episode because they feel it's dragging the series out too much? ALKSDJFLAKSDJF Seriously? WE NEED the character development. AND THE FEELS. EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT TO THE CHARACTERS.....it rips our hearts out when one of them dies. T___T Β And to learn more about Levi....I was happy and yet so sad for this episode...

And after episode 22.. Ugh, they killed my feels D': I felt really sorry for Levi ;-;
