I believe, based on when I got the picture this is inspired by, it is meant to be spring/early summer for Norway. There's still some snow here and there, so I figured it might still be a bit chilly hence the clothed ponies! In my head while drawing this, I was thinking this would be a late autumn, maybe early winter scene. Some behind the scenes thought process for ya!

It is kinda hard to explain really lol. I guess I start out with a rough sketch and from then it varies depending on what I'm doing and how I'm feeling. Sometimes I'll refine the sketch, other times I'll go straight into painting an under layer so I can see how things look and then paint ontop of that. Mostly it is a mixture of sketching, painting and then fixing stuff I feel needs fixing (or that I can be bothered to fix, heh heh). Sorry about the long delay until the responce and I hope this helps some
