Hey! This is officially my first 2024 piece, and it carries my New Year's art goals with it. Since I have realized that my sketches are usually better than my finished artworks, I have decided to give up my former expectations and to give another turn to my art - a turn that I can actally undertake given my present skills and mood. I have been wanting to get minimalistic, to get cleaner and more abstract representations of the world, to no avail. I have had to recognize that my flow follows other paths, and maybe they are to be embraced. So here are the new rules:

- References. Above all, looking for references. I feel I will never grow as an artist if I keep on drawing from imagination almost exclusively. This implies giving up Creative freedom to some extent, but I do hope it will help me improve my compositions.
- Simple but audacious palettes.
- The right amount of elements for each piece. I don't want them to be overwhelming.

As for the meaning, I am up to start a new series on hugs - because, if you had still not guessed it, that's what I miss the most 🥺 and in this day that the Christmas "truce" is over, the ugly day to day battles come back and the people I love are far away, I feel it's the best moment to start posting. And I do hope I can turn this series into prints and finally start selling something decent.

Regarding this, as soon as I found the image on Pinterest, I knew I had to recreate it my own way. I have never had a dog and cannot understand the conection between dog owners and their pets. But I understand that, for many, a dog can be the only true life companion, the only source of love without judgement, the only warm body ready for a hug on a cold, winter day. It might well be my best bet in the future, although I don't usually respond good to that sort of unlimited admiration. In any case, here's it. At least I expected this to change a bit my reluctance to take pet commissions.
