I strive to frame images in camera with the aim to crop minimally, but I seldom print an image full frame. In this case, this is the whole negative.Taken as an establishing shot in Appalachia. The small narrow alleyway was home to a family barber shop, down the stairs. Nothing particularly unusual, but clearly not metropolitan in nature. This reminds me of some businesses I have seen in the small cities of Central America. This alley was very clean, reminding me of some towns in Europe, but I was taken with the sign. Seldom have I seen a manufactured sign with the phrase added "DOWN STAIRS".
Part of my continuing series of images for my article in "Appalachia '70" magazine, in the gallery folder of the same name.
Taken with my Zeiss Contarex, with 55mm F1.4 Planar, on Kodak Panatomic X 135mm panchromatic film, about 1969.

Fantastic shot.
I've always been fascinated by businesses that were slightly out of sight, off the main road or strip, just trying to find any space to open their shop.

Really nice photo, interesting composition. The shop seems to be really nice and like an invitation to come with this pannel.
I would have liked maybe a little bit more contrast but the photo is good!
