This has some very realistic colours and textures to it, it's hard to believe it's not a real world structure. The shadows add to the realism too. Wonderful work, Hal!

HalTenny In reply to SchwarzKreuz [2013-12-10 13:36:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. It takes some time. One of the best ways to learn is to keep a watch out for when people post parameters. You can check out what formulas they use and what works well together. It's like anything else, you have to invest the time and not expect to much at first.

SchwarzKreuz In reply to HalTenny [2013-12-11 03:30:48 +0000 UTC]

Right now I am working on a metallic city scape using a Parameter from you. Still its hard to me to understand the Formulas, some are just so... confusing and doing weird things.
I have tried the Formulas you used for this imaged mentioned in anotehr comment, but one problem I got is that the image suddenly have all this tiny particles, like dust hanging around...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HalTenny In reply to SchwarzKreuz [2013-12-11 13:54:00 +0000 UTC]

It's difficult to recreate something just knowing the formula combination and not the settings. Just one small change to a variable in one formula can make a lot of difference. I did forget to mention that along with the formulas I listed, I also had Julia turned on. Just so you know, I have been unable to recreate images from only having the formulas used listed, even when only 3 or 4 formulas were used. Sometimes I've spent weeks trying. So it's not easy by any means.

As far as the tiny particles you mention, this is often caused by a scale setting in a formula, particularly when multiple formulas are used. So try adjusting the scale in different formulas. There are many other things as well, such as iteration settings on different formulas, things you pick up as you look over more parameters from other peoples work. I am always perfectly willing to answer specific questions, but keep in mind, I've spent many hundreds of hours learning MB3D, and still learn new things all the time. It's rare that someone can pick up on it without spending a significant amount of time using it.

What surprised me a lot is how to look for nice locations in the Fractal. I tried loading some params and zoomd far ou than tried to find nice locations again and failed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HalTenny In reply to SchwarzKreuz [2013-12-12 12:54:21 +0000 UTC]

A lot of times you can do that. Often though, people concentrate on one area and tweak that area only to look nice. Sometimes that translates well to all areas of the fractal, but not always.

For the life of me I can't discern what kind of function this machine could possibly perform.

In short, what the heck is this supposed to do?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HalTenny In reply to witit [2013-12-10 01:01:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, this one kind of threw me too. While I do think a lot of my pieces look like machinery, I'm kind of leaning more towards it being some sort of architectural sculpture, or even an ornate support column. Having said that, it can basically be whatever you can imagine! Thanks!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HalTenny In reply to batjorge [2013-12-10 01:07:55 +0000 UTC]

No, but I quite often do use Smoothfold in this style. This one uses Amazing Box, _YplusSinZ, Sierpinski3, Quadrat3D and Folding Int Pow. I hardly ever use Quadrat3, but I found this in some old parameters of mine that could possibly be a far removed tweak from someone. Thanks!
