Description A doodle I made to practice Darth Maul's body scribbles. I haven't draw him really in years, nor really given him any thought, but some recent shit reminded me that I really love this character. He's my hero. So I'm going to start working on my Star Wars fiction again and drawing him more, and I'm going to try and get out of my drawing rut.

I draw really boring shit. Tired of it. Time to branch out and get out of my comfort zone. Maul is my Muse.

There might be some girly goo too, but I'd like to think I'm old enough now where I can write Maul without RUINING him. We'll see.

You're taller than the actor that played Maul
He's 5'7"

But he's supposed to be around 6'5" in his book appearances.

I always kept him as a shorty, found him more endearing that way. Maybe he uses the force to make himself appear larger- like a horned lizard! lolol

Ah, the beauty of a Sith Zabrak...Maul in particular! For years I had watched The Phantom Menace and only thought that he was cool. But when I watched it last week, I fell in love!

Thanks for the lovely tribute to us Maul Lovers!

<3 Its nice to know there are still people out there who find him lovely! I recommend reading Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter by Michael Reaves, it's a really good book and I think he does a really good job writing Maul's character. I may draw him more- been fangirling over him lately. xD

And it's nice to know that there are other people besides me loving Maul.

I thought about finding that book! I may have to order it...my local bookstore doesn't carry it.

And yes, draw more! I suppose I'll just have to spy on you to make sure that you do...

I love this. My friend recently told me that Maul's black is tattoos and that his race is totally red. Silly Siths! Kind of irrelevant but great job!

Well, Zabrak's come in a variety of colors- mostly regular skin tones but red is also very common- and even black. But yeah- Maul's skin is red, the tattooes are black. Ty!

Love this! It's such a refresher from all of the Darth Maul movie stills people have copied and posted on DA. I especially like the loose lines and the texture in the background.

And don't worry, if you write Maul anything like you draw him, I doubt he'll be ruined.

<3<3 I love you for commenting with something thought out, and thank you. I have a similar opinion on all the reproduction stuff... more original Maul art should exist!

Thank you again! Made my day.

He looks really pensive. =O I like the mottled background..

I think you would be good at a Darth Maul fanfic. You seem to understand pretty much what he's all about.

Very nice.

No ruining, please, but fan fiction from you might be interesting.

So far my friend seems to think I am doing a good job. Involves romantic-ish involvement with Maul though, so that in itself is going to be pretty hard.

Nemonus In reply to Gone-Batty [2009-02-12 16:40:13 +0000 UTC]

I just can't/prefer not to see him as romantically attached in a fanfic, although I know people like to do that, for better or for worse.

Gone-Batty In reply to Nemonus [2009-02-14 02:32:55 +0000 UTC]

We'll see how it turns out. I don't really see him as being romantic so much as possessive and angry. v.v Hopefully I can achieve.

Possessive and angry definitly makes sense. No worries.

Just out of curiosity, was this drawn purely digitally or did you scan it in first?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gone-Batty In reply to king0lag [2009-02-11 17:59:06 +0000 UTC]

I drew it using my tablet on the computer. My scanner is old and giving up the fight D:

I thought so :3

I was checking out your lines, the sketchy details if you will. I am a big supporter of those things, but I have a lot of trouble drawing directly to screen. It's not as much the coordination... I have no problem with it... but i get... hmm not sure how to describe it. Discouraged perhaps?

I like the feedback I receive from the pen to paper... and the quick sliding around on a tablet... it's just not the same. So, since I saw what appeared to be a digital drawing with the same lines I loved so much I was thinking there may be hope for me one day after all xD

TL;DR: He looks kick ass.

Gone-Batty In reply to king0lag [2009-02-12 11:19:42 +0000 UTC]

There totally is, you should see my first tablet drawings. Been practicing for years trying to make it all clean and then just gave up. I'm a sloppy person when I draw, lines all over the place. My pencil stuff looks identical LOL. Just let it flow in my opinion, scribble fast stuff on it until you get a real feel for being loose. I used to get all worked up like drawing on the computer made it 'offical' or something, but really it just makes it easier to erase and change stuff. In time you will learn that Lasso+transform will become your bestest friend (for photoshop at least).

And thank you btw, for the question and the compliment. No one really asks questions and I love answering them so very much. *__*

I shee what you mean... I guess it's just one of those things you have to work at... years and years is sure discouraging but it's like a rite of passage... so many great artists... one day I'll make something good :3

[link] <== Me I swear

No problem for questions, when I add people to my watch I really try and comment and question as much as I can! I feel that there is much education to be had in talking to artists on DA. I mean, why should we live in a bubble when their are so many great people and great communication tools at our fingertips
