I'm reading a Russian book from 1921 or so about religious cult life in a remote village near a mountain lake, in the days just before the Revolution. It's full of sex, blood, murder, delirium, insanity and misc gore. So much so that shortly after it was published copies of it were confiscated and burned and the book was banned for being "blasphemous and pornographic", which was the main reason for me to start reading it I have to admit. I somehow feel that you could relate to it..
