Print available here: [link] Well this is one of my assignments from my Mixed Media class. We were told to paint something for a social event. I chose a Sakura Tree Festival, and thus this is the background for my flier.
Done with acrylics.
Credit goes to my mom for the effect of the cherry blossoms. As I was trying to figure out how to paint them, she showed me a really neat trick. Scrunch up a plastic bag and dip it in different shades of pink. Then splotch them to create the cherry blossom effect. Neat, no? =3

I'm doing a lil project inside my dorm-size apartment.
I have painted the walls like a toast colour and in the front room I'm painting pretty sakura, but I think now around my bed i'll be trying out this new technique to go all artistic with the sakura!! Thanks for sharing this!!!

lol. crazy huh? It was just a plain wal-mart plastic bag. The kind you get groceries in. xD
I crumbled the bag into a ball about the size of my fist, but loosely, and tapped it into the paint. Then I sponged it onto the paper. It's the coolest effect ever.

I love, absolutely LOVE the texture. The trunk of the tree seems a little blank compared to the depth of the cherry blossoms, but I imagine that texturing that little space would have been difficult, lol :>
And even though the trick doesn't allow for realistic-looking cherry blossoms, I love this artistic flare SO much better.
The biggest town closest to me, Traverse City, is FAMOUS for its cherries. There are even orchards of cherry trees, and I get to see the cherry blossoms ;3; so pretty.

lol. I know. When my mom first showed the trick to me, I was all like. @.@ "Ooo..." and "Ahhh..." and "Omgosh I have to do this!". lol.
The trunk of the tree was a bit difficult. You're right, I didn't have much room to work with it. But the scan really took a lot of the texture out of it. I have a ton of different shades of brown on my tree trunk, but the scan kinda ruined it. You can see about 2 different shades of brown in the scan, but I think I added like 4. >.< lol. Gotta luv scans.
Awww! I wish I was able to see cherry blossoms all the time. I simply <3 them to death. ^_^
