Description
This is my entry for the Paca Monthly prompt of my pacapillar Cinna :> I made it out of polymerclay, spackling(for the icing), acrylic paint, real cinnamon sticks(for the tail), and gloss varnish(for the apple slice) :3 I'm actually really happy with how it turned out and it was a lot of fun to make and see it slowly come to life! ^^If anyone has any questions about my process making this, feel free to ask, I'd be happy to explain what I did and how I did it~
Here's more pics at different angles(and a fun one with cookies):

MY FREAKING GOD THIS IS SO COOL! I love the icing, and how soft everything looks. You just wanna poke it, as if it were a real creature
I'm curious... did you take sculpting classes? and if not, how did you learn to sculpt?

asfdafdsga thank you ;U; I'm glad you like it!!
The only sculpting classes I've had were just your average high school art classes, but we never used polymer clay just the type of clay you have to fire in a kiln. This is polymer clay so its a little different. I learned how to use it mostly from various polymer clay charm video tutorials on youtube. Also past experiences and research helped me find other methods of doing things, like for instance I figured out I could use spackling for the icing from looking up how to make display cakes and cupcakes :>
The sculpting itself I guess is mostly just practice. Be sure to break objects down into basic shapes, go into the details once you have the proportions and placement to you're liking. It also helps to have an image/drawing to base the proportions on. I don't think I did for this but it probably would have made it a little easier in hindsight =v=;
These videos are pretty helpful(the last one is the one that inspired me to actually do the scuplture) :

I also have a featured comment on the first page of comments that explains everything I did in detail if you want to know more about my specific process for this sculpture~

Thank you so so much for your reply! <3 Your process is really interesting, and honestly I'm really interested in trying sculpting myself after reading your answer ;w; I've never sculpted before, since art classes on my school were just... copying objects on paper without direction haha
I'll definitely take a look at it and try! You've truly inspired me. I hope you do more sculpting in the future, since your work is impressive to say the least <3

I'm glad I could help! You should go for it! If you ever post what you sculpt online, I'd love to see it :>
I might do some more sculpting eventually, if I do I'll definitely post it since so many people seem interested in it ^^

It's fine! I'll warn you ahead of time, this is gonna be a lot of reading, hopefully you don't mind x'D
Well, first I went out and bought some white polymer clay(I used Sculpey for this but Fimo could work too). When buying the polymer clay I made extra sure that what I was getting was soft enough to use. In the past I made the mistake of just picking the colors and leaving and that left me with really hard clay that was difficult to work with. I got white because itβd be the easiest color to paint over and was one of the main base colors of my paca.
To save on clay I used a scrunched up tin foil base for both the head and body. I put a layer of clay over the tin foil and blended it until I could not see the tin foil anymore. I connected the two pieces together and then added the little details like the legs and face. It was a little frustrating cause when I tried blending it with my fingers sometimes my nails would scratch the clay a little in places. Overall though I just tried getting it as smooth as I could. I added the apple last by sticking a small wire in the bottom of the slice and the top of the head, then blending it, and for good measure adding liquid sculpey. I added texture to the fleshy side of it using a toothbrush and made indentations where the seeds would go. I left the rump, neck, and the other side of the top of the head alone. Once I was happy with the way it looked I baked it in the oven for the time it said(I looked up how long and what temp online).
By the time I was done sculpting it and it had been baked it wasnβt as smooth as I would have liked and it had a lot of fuzz and dust on it(which didnβt matter too much cause I was going to paint over it). To smooth it out more I used acetone(nail polish remover) on a Q-tip to rub places smooth. This gets rid of leftover fingerprints, small scratches, a lot of the dust, and other areas that are a little bumpier than Iβd like. Once that was done I used watered down acrylic paintΒ to paint the body and apple slice with the different shades of browns, reds, and yellows. When you do multiple layers of watered down paint itβs supposed to help reduce the visibility of the brush strokes.
Once it was all dry it was time for the icing. I had discovered from a previous project I did that people used spackling to make fake display cakes. Itβs lightweight, you can tint it with acrylic paint if you want, and it has a similar consistency to frosting(itβs a bit grainier and not quite as sticky though). I had gotten some frosting tips and small zip lock bags. I cut a corner of the bag and taped it inside the frosting tip I wanted then scooped the spackling into the bag and sealed it up like you would with normal frosting. I ended up applying it multiple times because sometimes it wouldnβt stick or I didnβt like the shape it made and would scrape it off with a palette knife. I found that putting a small layer of it on first and letting it dry a little helped the spackling to stick better when I applied it in larger strokes. I had to leave it out to dry overnight in a makeshift holder.
For the icing ear I super glued a small piece of cardstock(it was actually a small triangular piece I cut out of a toilet paper roll) as a base for the spackling to adhere to then applied the spackling one layer at a time. I waited a few hours then carefully did the tail end too. While the spackling was wet I put two cinnamon sticks I had cut down to size into it. One it dried a little I applied more spackling here and there to fill it out more. I waited till the next day to paint the icing with light shades of cream and brown speckles. The spackling is water soluble so had to be careful that I didnβt oversaturate it when painting with the watered down cream color.
Also sometime after I baked the whole sculpture I made little seeds with more polymer clay that I baked. The intention was to paint them then glue them but they ended up being so small that they stuck to the brush. I ended up super gluing them to the apple then painting them. In hindsight it would have been easier to just make them and place them on the unbaked sculpture then bake it all together. Lastly I added a glossy varnish to the apple.
Whew, that was long winded Hopefully it all made sense OTL Itβs a little hard to explain every little detail without showing you but hopefully you got the gist of it :3 Let me know if you have any questions if there's any part you don't understand fully~
