Description
Araia is a character of mine, created in boredom and a swathe of zombie tales.Character Bio
Araia, despite her human appearance, is not human. Despite the fact she appears to be from a primitive culture, she is not.
Her clothes, hair and weaponry mark her out among her people as a warrior.
Her warrior sect came into prominence to fight an undead threat (what we would term zombies). The virus was transmitted by bite and could infect animals above the size of about a Terran Vizla pointer. Her planets approximation would be ‘bigger than the Araika bird’.
However someone did show an immunity to the virus but it resulted in their body becoming a massive battery that, when using a metal conductor, could be used to shock.
Many people volunteered for the new innoculation after it was discovered that these high power bioelectric shocks had an incredible effect on their ‘zombies’ (their term ‘Aenakatra’ traslates as ‘the rotted living’, from their word ‘nakatru’ for gangrene or necrosis).
By the time Araia was accepted into her warrior sect (Ookhunoe or ‘those like the night birds’) the ‘Charger’ had been developed (the wires and steel caps on her left hand (her left)). The wires go into the skin of her wrist to pick up as much of the charge as possible, directly from her muscles and veins, and then deliver it to the metal caps.
Her leather armour is made from the hide of the Kalakana lizard, rather like a terran triceratops, but twice the size. The leather is several centimetres thick in places, and as strong as steel. The mail on her chest is an extra layer of protection.
At her belt is her sword Talentak, or ‘End’, and some tiny throwing knives. There are also two pouches on her belt, one filled with jewels and gold, the other containing fire making kit, for long missions.
The metal collar she wears is made of iron as are the caps on her hair. The rings in her hair are silver as are her ear studs. The number of decorations on the face, ears and in the hair are indicative of the number of Aenakatra they have killed. She has killed 37 outright and without aid and many more in group brawls with other members of the Ookhunoe. The collar indicates her sect.
Araia’s sect is reknown for their prowess with edged weapons using them in preference to firearms. (recruits must kill more than 15 Aenakatra without aid before being accepted to the sect).
Araia has become her one of her nations primary strategist but really only wants to split her time between killing off Aenakatra and talking to her not-boyfriend who helps her develop Chargers. In her spare, spare time she practices mounted fighting on a winged lizard not far off in appearance to a much larger archaeopteryx and analogous to a horse. The species is carnivorous but very friendly. Hers is called Morro, and has dark brown and grey mottled skin and feathers.

Cool, we have the beginnings of a background! The character's stance is interesting as well. I'm impressed at the hands too. Most people, or at least in the artwork I've seen, tend to leave the hands down and avoid the lines. You do just the opposite which is quite daring. love the detail. I also like the composition of the head with regards to the background and I'm tempted to say you consciously chose to align them in that fashion. Very soothing.
I would just say keep observing people and images of them with concern to arms. Look at the shadows and even measure them with a pencil or something. That's just a suggestion feel free to dismiss it. The artist is the ultimate judge.

Thank-you. I originally made Araia to play around with hair textures and then decided to try out drawing hands because I just can't do them. The background was just me wanting to add further to it. The way the face is aligned is actually because I started this in Bio class and used a fellow student for the reference as I cannot draw faces on an angle from memory alone. Thank-you
