I don't think it's a knife, I think it's just the way it looks. I think it's just the edge of the pillar and the shadow of the fern outside in the back that makes it look like a knife

*!!FACEPALM!!*Β Now that I got a -proper- look at it, you're right, it'sΒ a combination of the edge of the pillar and the light shining through the fern giving it a 'blade' shape/look.Β UGH!Β
To be honest, there is a bit of an optical illusion happening there, I can't unsee the 'knife' but I do see that he just has his hand behind his back.
