Description
I guess I was solidifying a technique I've experimented with before. Didn't realize until too far in that I was working at only 100 DPI, which sucks, but overall I like it. In my last portrait, I swore to add more than just a face, but this was all that was in the image and I didn't feel like using my imagination. But, NEXT time!Tools: Sketchbook Pro/ Intuos Pro

Beautiful! 💕
I initially thought this was a photograph. I also concur with previous commenters about the white (light?) underneath her jawline. In addition, I wish the artwork overall was a bit sharper, especially details in the hair.

Yeah, after spending so much time spent on the face, I didn't have the energy to do the same with the hair. Thanks though.

I enjoy looking at your work it is very unapologetic, strong as well as beautiful. It is also refreshing it's just lovely to see artwork that isn't gentrified and that is not from the white lens.

Thank you. I really appreciate the comment. And I just try to keep a fresh perspective when it comes to what I draw. I always like to think i draw for a younger me.

You are very welcome, thank you for sharing. I think you are doing a great job in achieving that. Your work is very fresh smooth yet strong and honest. What do you mean "for a younger you"? I can't imagine that you are that old and that your view point in/of life is narrow or limited like a young person or do you mean that you tap into the younger you of possibilities and not being chained my limits, categories or filters?

I'm only 25, so yeah, I'm young. When I say "a younger me" though, I simply mean I want to draw things that would have broadened my sense of what i could do with art, since i feel I was stifled by expectations and insecurities as a child and in many ways still am. It's my way of saying that I want a young person of color to look at my art and see possibilities in themselves.

Yeah you are young alright and have so mic more to experience in life and I honestly hope that you have more great adventures then bad. I think we all go through that since as we get older we realise that we have the power to control our own lives but we have been chained down by social constraints that make us lose that sense of wonder and limitless possibilities when we were younger.
My friend had a conversation with a random old man at the park awhile back after she had gotten scolded by a lady and was told to act her age at the time my friend was 22-23. My friend said that they had an extensive conversation but the thing that struck her was he said that we as human being should never accept or give up our inner child or sense of wonder or courage to keep trying because it is how we persevere and keep moving once we lose that we become empty and settle for things that don't make us happy and when that happens life is over.
It's kind of like that saying "it's not a matter of life after death. It's a matter of if you've lived life before death"
Anyway sorry I can be rather long winded I don't really get a chance to talk like this between group and a very very small select of friends.

Wonderful job with the lighting. Though I must agree with K-hermann; the while light underneath the chin is kind of a distraction from the rest of the piece, but still amazing work!

Haha yeah, I've been hearing that. It was one of those, "will this work? I think this will work" kind of creative choices. Glad you like the overall piece though!

I love the rendering , the earings and all
The light under her neck is weird tough , it's like she will be beheaded lol and its her last moment there

Maybe... it IS her last moment here. O.O haha
But, I get what you mean. It's hard for me to see it because I know the intention i had when making the light, but if it doesn't translate to the viewer then there's a problem. Knowledge for the future.
And thanks for the comment!

Ooooohhhhhhhhhh gosh, I absolutely adore the colors that you paint with though, it's so subtle but it adds so much depth with the hues you use! Love her hair~ *-*

Thanks! I like how the colors came out in this one, especially since now I'm starting to pick colors on a more intuitive level as opposed to using multiply and screen layers. And I'd have to say the hair is one of my favorite parts as well.

This is so pretty and feminine; the yellow earing and eye shadow compliments and brings out her skin tones. (the only thing which bothers me, is under her chin area,...why is the front of her neck separated from that? ...kind of looks like an attempted decapitation. )

I was wondering when someone was going to comment on that. Haha it was just a choice i made based on the lighting in the original pic. In the original though, the white didn't cut in so deeply, which i believe is why it may be a bit distracting. Thanks for the comment!
