At first glance one can see that this shot has great impact.
What is interesting is that this here is very vivid without being too dramatic. It is simple, elegant and eye-catching.
The black and white scheme is just right - there is a perfect juxtaposition between the soft white light at the back and the crisp dark clothes.
The background, blurred creates the perfect atmosphere.
Finally, the composition, I think, is key. I love the way you took it to an extreme - everyday settings and props one step further - and yet so simple. What is also noticeable is the way this makes your eyes go on the shoes shooting right up to the head, leaving the tip of the hand to the light.

Going by what I know about photography, I can truly see beauty in the technique used here. Everything from composition and lighting to subject matter and timing are perfectly balanced in a truly elegant way.
I would like to point out the lighting especially. The flare on the left side adds an ethereal touch to the piece; almost making it surreal as if the model was being shot back to reality from a fanciful dream. I find the use of depth and focus adds to this, truly highlighting and showcasing the subject.
The model's masculinity juxtaposed against the slightly feminine playfulness and concentrated expression make for an innocence that I find myself intrigued by every time I see this piece. The originality of the photo is the only part I find less-than-impressive, however the technique truly sets this apart from any other comparable image. Truly a work of photographic mastery.

Whilst it does have the energy one would expect here, it has grace and simplicity roaring out at the observer. My first thought was one of Bert Hardy's lads was all growed up and that made me smile too - this is the link to one of Glasgow's Iconic people photographers...hope you see that too
