Nice model man, love all the details on the armor. I just have a question, why does the right arm have less polygons than the left one? Isnt it all the same subtool, judging by the shading or lighter color?

no, it's like 20 something subtools. i probably turned the poly count down abit so that my pc could work with it abit easier

Oh no, I was just talking about the body and arms. So the arms are seperate subtools?

yeah, at the time it was easier for me to just do them in separate chunks.

hey nice job man.

hmmh, well always have a solid concept of what you're doing.
if you model with zbrush always get as much as possible done before moving on to the next level.
if youve got questions then go ahead and ask.

that stuff i said earlier still applies, look up ALOT of anatomy, and keep practicing until you get it. don't get discouraged by criticism, most of the time it'll help you get better faster.

Hey!!!.... nice job!!! i love the details... by the look of it i guess its ehhh zbrush??? if thats the case how many polys do you have to use for a object like this, and how many subtools do you use.
I got a problem with LOW memory, i only got 1gig of ram and that gives me about 2 mill polygons. i tried to change the max polyrate so i got around 4 mill polygons but it works so slow that its impossible to get a good workflow and it crashes all the time.
Im pretty new to 3d and i only got one 3d obj in my gallery, and its only a WIP, but i was wondering if you could check it out and give me a few pointers on what to do with my polys???

the subtool count was about 43, I think. would have been more if I didn't merge the gun.
the poly count was about 6mil. I only have a Gig worth of ram too so it was a struggle too, nothing compared to my minotaur bust though. that was about 12+mil because I tried to overdetail it.
sure, I'll check it out and post a comment.

thanks alot but I'm still very very amateurish. need to learn more anatomy and a couple of other 3d programs before even thinking of going pro..

Well if you ever run out of ideas, I'd love to design something for you to build if you want to collab.

that would be so ridiculously cool.
I have a wip that I sort of gave up on at the moment (will finish it though)

the latest pass:

and what I'm going for:

the thing is that I'm still learning how to do solid objects in zbrush (was/am going to try learning Modo301 with the spider study) so armor might take me abit, posing could be a problem too but I really like the collab idea, especially looking at your style and body of work.

thanks.
you should check out the TweakCG forum, [link]
it's mostly a 3d modeling community (quite a few pros post there) but there is a 2d forum there too.
plus if you ever feel like learning 3d those guys help out alot (despite it being abit slow sometimes,) improved my work a whole lot based on the criticism I received there.

Thanks man! I've been lurking around the forum for a couple days and tried my hand at my first model in Maya/Z-brush. Check it out if you get a chance: [link]

way way better than my first time in 3d, that much is obvious (can be seen here: [link] )
good sense of gravity too. looks pretty cool, would be interesting to see it detailed.
I imagine you used maya to make the base mesh then imported it to zbrush? you can make the base mesh with zspheres (it'll look like the spider skeleton, then you can just hit A to make see how the mesh looks.)
this site [link] has a tut on basic head modeling (they model a minotaur head with zspheres, then move on to sculpting and detailing) I pretty much learned all the basics from it. it's for zbrush 2 (the "move" tool in Z2 is "tweak" in z3) but other then that it shouldn't be a problem.
if you have any zbrush related questions I'll be glad to help.

hmmh, maybe. by that time i hopefully improve abit.
I wonder why this one's getting all the attention instead of the one with the cool flag...
oh and I updated the nm thread with Avas character, go look at it!
