The description is spot on! I can feel ,as the viewer, everything portrayed in the comment. Although the content is frustrating to think about, I love the portrayal of truth in an unfortunate growing (hopefully temporary in deserving cases) segment of our society.

Looks like the concrete hole in an industrial building I used to live in. Our dog was more lab than pit bull, though.

He just seems so much at peace though. Yeah he's in poverty, dunno if he ate. But he just seem like the next day is going to be all right.

Also, Checker blanket FTW!

Well captured, but the real question that comes into play is this: Did he/she help that man after taking this photo?
Or just snap the shot and leave?

Random-Gal In reply to Toiim [2009-11-06 00:55:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.
Though I would seriously like to know.
I've seen these types of images too often, and only now have I realized that it is a very frightening possibility!

The photographer sells the picture for big $$$, inspires emotion and pity the world 'round, but perhaps at the same time that very person in the image is dying of starvation.

Our concern doesn't do much in that case does it?

I also consider the photographer's thoughts in this case.
They could be under the impression that their photo will be enough, and the rest of the world will take care of it through donations inspired by the image.
However in that case they deny the fact that they saw a man in need, stopped long enough to capture him on camera for money, and neglected their duty as a fellow human being to aid their brother...

It's so sad...

.......And there I go rambling again... Sorry!

Toiim In reply to Random-Gal [2009-11-28 10:07:28 +0000 UTC]

lol, true, but the nezt question is:

"If the person got to a point in his life where he is living like like this with all the opportunities there are in this world today, would money help them??"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Random-Gal In reply to Toiim [2009-11-28 21:00:31 +0000 UTC]

Also an impressive point!
Would it do them any good if they had already given up?

My mom was asked for change by a homeless guy in Mcdonald's once, but she couldn't give it to him because she saw he had a fresh pack of cigarettes hanging out of his pocket.

Sure enough, he went and asked somebody else, then used what they gave him to buy a coffee instead of going to the grocery store and buying cheap bread!

What these people REALLY need is to be directed to the nearest charity.

Toiim In reply to Random-Gal [2009-11-28 21:29:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I think people in situations like that really need to have friends who can help them. Not strangers who can lend them change. Although It does seem money can help them, I think people like this need emotional support.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Random-Gal In reply to Toiim [2009-11-28 23:12:48 +0000 UTC]

Definitely.
That's why the Church exists though, right?'Cause we know people need more than a "here's some change" and go on our own merry little way.
It's always awesome to see people who've lost everything and managed to get back on their feet with the loving support and prayers of a Christian friend.

Often total strangers can become the closest friends when enduring hard times together.

Where is this? I have heard of people living in the flood channels the super city's like LA and NY have, I'm curious if this is the place. It must have been on hell of an experiance traversing the world of the povery stricken, and then returning to normal life. Well done on the DD.

What gets me the most here is that
a) He provided a big comfy bed for his dog
b) He would've started out in a house just like most other people.

Images like this make you wonder what happened to him that he ended up like this. It also makes me far more grateful for all that I have. A job, an education, a family and a roof over my head. We have a lot to be thankful for and this image highlights that. We're too stuck in our own selfish ways. There are millions of people just like this man who need a permanent roof over their head but we're too busy buying whatever we want to remember, care or do anything.

Fantastic picture.
