Description Hurrah, more realistic Pokeymens. Because I promised.

Koffings are thought to be distant relatives of the familiar pufferfish. However, they have evolved to survive out of water, and instead of water or air, their bodies are filled with a lighter than air gas that allows them to float freely through the air. Like their ocean dwelling cousins, their skin secretes a highly toxic substance; however in this case, it is stored, in a powdered form, in small boils covering the Koffing's body. When attacked, the boils rupture, and a cloud of powdered poison bursts out, much like a fungus expelling its spores. The poison is extremely foul smelling and very irritating to the eyes and throat, deterring even the most determined of predators.

Koffings have a very unusual life cycle. Adult males are much smaller and weaker than the large, ferocious looking females; upon reaching adulthood the male latches onto the female with his jaws and remains fastened there for the rest of his life. The two Koffings effectively become one creature with a single mind, heralding their evolution into an adult Weezing.

(and yes, I realize that this way, it would technically be impossible for male Weezings to exist. but actual deep sea anglerfish do that, and it was the only logical explanation I could think of for how the whole "fusion" thing could work in real life :/)

Hooray for having no life and an overactive imagination!

How did I miss this? Love them as floating mutant fish, especially the way the smaller one is fused to the larger one like a male anglerfish

I liked the other style better (the wynaut family), but nonetheless, this is awesome.

And here I thought it was always a form of budding. You know, the second head would eventualy 'break' off, for lack of a better description, and turn into a koffing. But this is a very nice way to think of it. Mucho kudos.

Yay for realistic Pokemon! I was wondering from the thumbnail how they'd float through the air...and you've answered that puzzle wonderfully. ^^

I have been having urges to replay Red lately. Maybe I will... XD

Of course, Pokemon has a number of biological oddities woven into it already. Deep sea gulper eels? Nudibranches? Cicadas that evolve into adult cicadas AND their shell? Wacky stuff, yup...
