Actually, originally, her camera get destroyed at the end of the episode. But I think it's more clumsy and interesting that she is so shocked, that she forgot to remove the cover

Ah, see there you remembered it better than I did! I was confusing that scenario with another episode where April made the camera cover mistake or else forgot to load the camera with film (back in the day!) or something like that.
