Description Submission for: [link]

Honestly, I wasn't sure if I really wanted to enter or not. I've had computer issues, job and money issues, internet connection problems... I feel lucky I was able to scan this at all, let alone doodle it and color it. But, what can I say.... I felt inspired. I like it enough I might even convert the image into an illustration for my Rhaidon story.... I'm even thinking of changing the spelling of his name a little... Raidon... err.... something.

Anywho, this is my submission for the current contest; Bakumatsu Kenshin, or Battosai. Or... whatever.

Anyway, I've never considered him a murderer. I've always said there's a thing line between true cold blooded murder and assassination. What was he killing for? Vengeance? Power? Domination? No! Kenshin was fighting for the people, for peace.

For equality.... something we are forgetting in our world.

Anyway, he was just too young for such a job and sometimes it might not be the right way to solve a problem, which might have been what Hiko was trying to tell Kenshin all along. Not only that, but he nearly destroyed his own good heart and soul for idealism, and inevitably allowed Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu to be defeated. His heart was just too pure for the contest death and destruction dealt as a result of the war, which is what this image depicts, or that was the intent anyway.

The blood of death clings to him in the aftermath of a recent battle under a silent, starry sky. His eyes are intentionally shaded over, sort of like what they do in the anime and the manga to show hidden pain or anger, but if you look closely --- and I hope it came through in the scan, there are tears leaking from the spot his eyes usually are. He's sniffing the rose to try to clear the scent of blood from his mind. Life is precious to him, even then, and he sheds a silent tear for every man he fells -- more or less in private, I'd imagine.

So yeah, that's it. A tear of regret and sorrow for every man slain in the name of peace and equality, and a rose to remind him of the beauty of life, that there is a sweeter scent than the blood that clings to him.

This is post-Tomoe... or after Tomoe.... Ummmm.... I'm tired!! 'Post' does mean after ..... right? DX

So.... there were are! A big thanks to my mom too for letting me borrow her computer so much. I've got my second commission under way. It's just moving a lot slower than I wanted. I've got it sketched.... I just need to finess it before I ink and color it.

I TRULY appreciate all of those who have or may commission me. Every little bit helps. I will try my hardest to get them all done in a timely manner without skimping on .... AH SNAP!!! The words just died on me....

Anyway, more later friends!

P.S.... I don't think I'll put a 'mature' theme on this.... there's blood, yeah, but it's the aftermath stuff... so.... yeah...

Also, I apologize that the file is so ..... large.... It looked silly, all pixelated and.... wel, just WRONG whenever I tried to resize it. Hopefully once I get a better system that won't happen anymore. The HUGE file shows all the ugly bits though so I'm a little disappointed. I hope it'll do. Took me .... what? Off and on all day today and at least two or three hours last night..... Not including the sketching... or well, maybe including the sketching..... Maybe... 12 hours? That might be an exaggeration though....

Thank you!  It was about the only thing I could come up with but I loved it. I am considering doing a more recent version .... at least as soon as I can afford some better markers and find a good reference for it.

But the feeling is good.  I wanted him to seem frustrated and broken.  I'm glad I pulled it off.

Thank you. It was a little nerve racking, though. Markers are so easy to mess up and then you have to start all over again. 0.o

Its so beautiful, yet so sad. Kenshin's lamenting the death of his victims...

Yup. That's why he ultimately wandered for ten years. I'd imagine having to kill like that during a war would've been difficult for him. Hence the references to the rose, the crunched note and the tears. He's a 'kind hearted' person like Tomoe said.

I procrastinated commenting on this piece because I thought the awesome and painstaking work you put it into this deserve a thoughtful comment but in the end, the piece speaks for itself.

But I'll say this much, I love the all the details and symbolism they represent which are so true of him.

And I definitely love the form, structure and composition as well as your careful painting of the details. Reminds me of what it takes to do traditional work and the feeling one gets. Beautiful.

Bravo!

Thanks!

It did take a while, but it was fun. When pieces of art turn out the way I want them too, I feel so relieved. And this one just had to be done. It just breaks my heart when some people draw him as a merciless murderer... 'cause that's just not what he is. And so, that's when this came to mind.

I am rather pleased with the form and that myself. I wasn't originally going to do the dead tiny trees in the front but the picture felt too naked without them.

I hope things are going well. I've not been on in a while. This is the first chance I've had to get to a computer.

That is just simply amazing! Wow.. The emotion is so bitch-slapping-in-your-face out there- he's grieving so. D: Amazing job!! I still have to apply for that contest.. ._. Idk if I'll have enough time. OTL
