Description
Welcome and thank you for stopping byThe Enchanted Wood is part of the series The Magic Faraway Tree Collection and is based on my favourite childhood books by Enid Blyton. The artworks depict the fantasy folk that wove their magic stories through my early life such as Silky and Moonface
In this piece getting the squirrel fluffy was particularly challenging. It is also my first attempt at painting hair with a mouse.
Oh how I long for a Wacom tablet.
I dedicate The Enchanted Wood to the model, sweet little Aussie Anna. [link]
Anna will feature throughout this series of works as the youngest child in the Blyton books Franny. The name was changed in recent reprints of the novel from the original character name of Fanny (for obvious reasons).

Very nice. I've also read the faraway tree books and enjoyed them. My favourite character is moon face then the red squirrel as second favourite. I do love your work, it really does seem enchanted by the way the sun beams shine through the foliage, creating a dappling effect on the ground. Pure genius!

The Enchanted Wood and the Magic Faraway Tree were a series of children's books written by British author Enid Blyton in 1939. They were about three children who went to play in the forest behind their new home and climbed a tree to find lot's of fantasy characters living there. The top tree branches reached into the clouds and by climbing a rope ladder they could enter different fairytale lands....not all of them pleasant. It was a series that I read as a child and decided to illustrate when I first started digital art.
If you're interested, there's more written about the books in my Magic Faraway Tree gallery folder here [link]
Cheers Elle

this is really great work!! this is also one of my most favourite childhood fantasy story!!!
and i just can't help but think how can i fantasize it!! i even kept the book safely(now i will look it up and read again ) so when i feel like i want to day dream, i read it again!! it's my childhood fantasy and sometimes i wish , a movie on magic faraway must be made!
what do u think? shouldnt a film be made on this lovely story!!
i used to imagine, what would it be like to see different land come, esp land of gifts etc!!
why did they change the name from fanny to anna?

Wouldn't a film be wonderful. Imagine what they could do with all the effects these days/ I'm thinking Lord of the Rings meets Avatar! I recently reread the books too and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy. They changed Fanny to FRANNY I think because even though Fanny was an old fashioned English name it meant 'butt' in America.
Thanks for your kind words I'm glad you liked my interpretation. Elle

I thought it was stupid. why do they have to edit the old books? my American word dictionary is bad. my old fashioned English dictionary is good..... fanny... that's weird....
