I did use a photo as a reference, mostly for the light. And I'm always open to criticism.

The major thing I want to point out is the size of the eyes. Even though they are lovely done, they are a little large to the proportion of the face. You've got the part about the distance between the eyes being the same size as an eye, but the distance from the eye to the side of the face is usually more compared to your drawing. Other than that, I would suggest more shading in the face for a more 3D effect unless you aren't going for that.

I was aiming for wide open, too bad it didn't work . But as the distance to the side of face - the hair locks obscure it. It was like that in the photo and my hair is also this way. As for shading - the original has more but unfortunately photographing it flattened the picture. I'm not sure what I can do about this.

Oh no, they definitely look wide open! There is just something off on the proportions making the face look a little unrealistic, but it's not a bad thing.
And with the flattening, I too have that problem...
