Spriting is part of who I am as an artist and I think as much as I look down on ametuer spriting (thanks to the Mega Man community), it has taught me a lot and I enjoy doing it most of the time. Not that I don't acknowledge the great talents ametuer spriting has to offer, it's just hard to really appreciate spriting when you're hanging around a myriad of people who can't sprite.This is an animated sprite of a new Maverick I created for Mega Man X named Calypso Macaw. I tried to make it in the Mega Man X4-6 style. I actually created this for a Mega Man spriting contest, so I hope I win.
This took several days to finish, but the time I spent on it was very on and off, so I'd say it only took me about a day's worth of work to complete.

Lots of subtle nuances to it. Nice work. The movement of the tail was a very nice touch. Pretty nifty design, to boot.
My only gripe would be a perch or something.

About the perch, I figured if you were to fight Calypso Macaw in a game, the two perches (yes I planned out how he moves and attacks) would be part of the background on either side of the box you fight him in. I didn't want to unneccesarily cover up any part of the sprite with a perch because I wanted it to act as a raw sprite.

Haha, thanks much, but I wish. It's way too big to be used in a PSX MMX. But then again I didn't have anything to compare it to, I just went with my instincts on the size.

I was kinda thinking that myself, that it's a little big for a PSX maverick (especially considering that it's a Macaw), but it still captures the style of the sprites quite well, in design and animation.

Nah, I just do it from time to time. Like I said, spriting has taught me so much about depth and shading styles that it'd be stupid for me to just throw away something that's influenced me so much.
