Description I've never made something with pumpkin before! I have eaten pumkin soup twice in my life, and I really liked that! I planned to make pumkin risotto of some recipe I found. But the evening I wanted to make it, my mother and her boyfriend suddenly went out for dinner, leaving me alone with that round orange pumpkin.

So, it's a little sad to make pumpkin risotto just for one. Instead, I opted to make pumpkin soup because you can easily eat the leftovers the next day! As I said, I never made it before, so I looked it up on the internet and gave it my best shot. I did read that the flavour was best if you first grilled the pumpkin. I grilled it together with two small potatos, an apple and several cloves of garlic, topped with olive oil, sea salt, rosemary and thyme, for 50 minutes at 180 degrees.

In a soup pan, I first sautΓ©d a red onion (we were out of the yellow variant), then added all the grilled stuff and vegetable stock from a tablet. I forgot what other kind of herbs and spices I added, but I knew I added a bay leaf to the mixture, and a splash of sherry.

Because I was to eat this as a main dish, I left some pumpkin pieces aside, and pureed the soup. Because I'm a real meat-lover, I wanted to add a bit of baked ham (dinner without meat? How... un-me!). I had a fifth of a baguette in my freezer, which I un-froze and dipped in olive oil before I baked it for 8 minutes at 220 degrees.

So, this is grilled pumpkin soup with pumpkin pieces, topped with creme fraiche, scallions and ham! I thought it was really tasty

Oh, the pumpkin next to the plate is just a decorative one from our garden table And I had a glass of Chardonnay wine, my favorite type!

Oh my, I got a DD!! I mean, I got a DD! Thank all of you for viewing this, and thanks for the suggestion!!

I once set fire to a pot of water, but this makes me want to try cooking with pumpkin. Probably a bad idea. xDΒ

Really though, I do wish you'd written down what other spices you used! I love pumpkin soup so much. *3*

Awww, cooking isn't that hard when you have the basic ideas under control. And making a soup is always a safe option
I feel really bad for not remembering what kind of spices I used, especially because of the DD! I'm thinking of making the dish ahain and editing this recipe.
All I can say is, just take your time by carefully preparing all you need, and you should be able to make it as well

I'm sorry but I can't be trusted 100% with high end cooking recipes. Though I might surprise myself and do something along the lines of pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies or even a pumpkin spice bread. Thanks for making me hungry and giving me ideas to sauce with. Congrats on the DD!Β

I wouldn't call this a high end recipe! As long as you allow yourself enough time to prepare, it shouldn't be a problem - just put on some music to entertain you while cutting up the ingredients!
Pumpkin cookies and bread sounds amazing too - now you've given me ideas in return (and they sound rather high end as well ). I must acquire a pumpkin soon and use it in a few different recipes

cakecrumbs In reply to Myrth1 [2013-10-08 02:45:41 +0000 UTC]

Culinary arts is a thriving and important part of Artisan Crafts and in turn deviantART. Food is art. Food photography is art. It will be represented in the Daily Deviation features from time to time. Not everyone will love every piece of art featured as a DD, that's the wonderful this about diversity. But most have the good grace to not be rude to the artist.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Myrth1 In reply to cakecrumbs [2013-10-08 12:07:44 +0000 UTC]

No, this is just instagram trash for hipsters. If I would like to watch someone's dinner, I would go to instagram. Sorry. First, I would have to be retarded, then I would go on instagram.

And by labeling everything as "art" I can smear your face with shit and call it art. How artsy is that for you, manfool?

If you all can't cope with fact that someone may and will simply find your works stupid or ugly, why the fuck you even bother to post it, if any form of criticism is "bad" and "unnecessary"? People, get hold of yourselves

And as a final note - go play someone's lawyer elsewhere, ok?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icedrop21 In reply to Myrth1 [2013-10-09 11:40:10 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, smearing someone's face with shit and calling it art IS art. Probably has been done before, if not repeatedly. But unlike culinary arts - which is a very popular form of art across the world - art with the use of feces and a model is a little eccentric, so it would be advisable to find a willing model for this concept.
If you would post this you might get flamers who tell you it is disgusting and/or fetishist porn. You might find that your piece of art is less appreciated by the majority of artist on deviantART. But rest assured, you are free in your art. (Do check first whether it is allowed on this website though, I've never really looked up the rules about this specific type of art)

But I would like to point out one misconception you seem to have. People who post their art usually do it for 2 reasons: The first is letting other people enjoy what you created (for the people who like it), the second is asking for constructive criticism (for the people who don't like it and actually know how to improve it). If you do not like it, but don't have any hints on how to improve the piece of art, your comment has no specific value and will be under appreciated. Personally, I have trouble seeing the added value of your comment for this art, as it doesn't seem to hint for any improvements on the recipe or the picture.
I hope this clears up for you why you got argued against.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Myrth1 In reply to Icedrop21 [2013-10-09 14:06:28 +0000 UTC]

Yep, like I assumed - you run for the "don't like - don't watch and don't critisize" route. Because the only "allowed" form of critique it bunch of praises and pointing out what can be improved... Since nothing will make this shot a work of art, nor the dish itself, what the hell I'm suppose to point at?

Want an advice? Since you are so oh post-modern art, learn basic thing about it. Whole post-modernism in art is all about fucking with people, leading to their regular, often and well-earned outbursts of disgust how low the art have fallen. What artist and their supporters didn't really get is that's a natural circle and always start crying how much everyone is not liking them, their bullshit works and has no idea about what critique is. But since art became free-for-all, why critique can't?

So yeah, finally deal with it or stop playing as a lawyer for other people bullshit "art".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icedrop21 In reply to Myrth1 [2013-10-09 15:17:59 +0000 UTC]

You are fully allowed to say as much nasty stuff as you like, because it's a human's right to have freedom of speech. Therefore people are also in their right to tell you they can't appreciate you using that freedom in such an unkind way.
What is the fun of looking at art you can't appreciate? And why do you waste your time insulting the artist when you could be looking at something you like? Well, I can't blame you, I'm also of the 'Why do it easy when it can be done difficult?' types. I am not telling you that you can't state your opinion. I'm merely telling you that I would prefer not to see it. (in which I am, as you see, doing exactly the same as you are and ignoring the 'don't like, don't watch/criticize' rule). If I want brainless flaming I'll go to discussion forum, not an art website.

And actually I'm not at all into modern art(s). Quite the contrary. That's why I chose to look at the art I like instead, and leave the liking and criticizing of those to people who do enjoy it.

I don't think I'm playing lawyer. Unless you are trying to sue the artist because she made culinary art while you don't like that, then it would seem I'm unintentionally playing lawyer. But for me, it would seem more like I'm feeding the trolls, which is a lot more fun than lawsuits. I do love culinary arts, after all.
