lol, we tried to get a similar effect and couldn't do it.

Therefore ours is completely different in pose, technique and execution

albert hall underpass? I love that place. Normally fluresents (ahh i can't spell) are annoying cause of the green tinge but this works really well. Very nice

Yes! got it in one There's a little secret - you can't see it because I edited it out, but my flash is dangling from the power cable of one of the lights.

hehe, well odd as it may seem, you should be able to do this on a D70!! They have 'Commander Mode' on the internal flash, which can set off your SB600 remotely without cables if you set it up right! And you've got an 18-70 lens too right?

The only special things I did were hang my speedlight up from some cables which were overhead, and then photoshop the speedlight out and change the tint

*blinks*

Where the hell have you been all my life. TEACH ME MASTER!

(no, seriously, I had no idea I could set that thing on its tripod without a cable...and seeing as I have no cable, the tripod is pointless...*nose dives back into the manual* - and here I thought I had read the thing cover to cover three times over)

make sure you set the flashgun to channel 3A for it to work though, I think! If you can't nut it out let me know and I can give you a hand to set it up I'm extraordinarily lucky at the moment - a friend of mine has loaned me her SB600 so I have two of them to toy with!

You really are one of the luckiest barts I know

Just to prove it...went to attempt your suggestions and guess what...battery went dead. Which is fine, I was pushing my luck the last photo shoot. So I change out batteries, pop the old one in the charger and go back to my "studio". New battery's dead. Fine. Change them out pop in another spare. Dead.
I have 4 batteries. They are ALL dead! *humph*

wow!
I love that on first glance, everything looks so sharp and clean. Then I noticed the gutter, and the splatters on the wall, the crooked light, the 'ruffled' clothes.
I agree with a comment made by someone else.... definately looks underworld-ish. There is something eerie about dark green and black.

Is Justin your preferred model, or is he just your available model?

Available but we're best mates, so when he comes up from Melbourne we always do shoots, it's a tradition!
